Watched Jodorowsky’s Dune (2013), a documentary directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. The documentary explains the ambitious and unsuccessful attempt to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune into a visionary film in the 70s. It explains his approach assembling a team of legendary artists like Salvador Dali, Pink Floyd, H.R. Giger. The film ultimately fails due to logistical and financial problems. What’s really interesting is the lasting influence this failed masterpiece had on modern science fiction cinema. This is an amazing documentary. Super interesting. Must watch. 8/10 #nodereviews

All those legendary graphic novels he made was after this failed attempt. I’m glad he failed lol. That’s how I got to know his work. So far his graphic novels are much better than his movies overall

Great documentary, but after watching The Holy Mountain, I'm a bit glad he was unsuccessful. I think the would have went a bit abstract.

Great doc yes. I really didn’t get holy mountain. I preferred Santa Sangre. El topo was okay.

Will have to remember to watch this. There was a funny show that had a subplot for a few episodes about a couple guys quitting jobs to make a dune stage play, and the joke is how committed they vs how awful and niche it is lol

lol probably a nod to this

Yeah. Yet somehow the joke wasn't lost on me as I'd seen all the movies (I think) and it's kinda true for them

You mean all the episodes of that show?

For all the movies. That is, they all struggled to capture the greatness of the books.

Ah you mean dune movies. Yes. Very complex story/universe to bring to the big screen. Graphic novel would have made more sense

The documentary shows that all of his complex/grandiose ideas were brought to his graphic novels. That’s how I discovered Jodorowsky as a teen, through his graphic novels. I was looking into buying the whole serie I liked after watching the documentary yesterday. So good

Oh wow. Don't know crap about jodorosky. Graphic novel would be a cool format for it... sounds expensive to buy, but that's why we stack. Get on that, and review it!

Already read that particular series multiple times. 9.6/10

When I first read it I thought wow this has elements of Star Wars, dune, alien and a lot of great sci fi. He made a great mashup of these concepts. Only to realize that all these ideas came from Jodorowsky. Brilliant. Really enjoyed the documentary. He’s so passionate. He was 84 at the time of the making of the doc and seemed so young. Very smart

He’s 96 now. Last I heard he was working on another documentary. Started in 2022. It had financing and everything. Not much news about it these days. But I mean he’s 96. Might not do another one.

Sorry but I'm confused. Jodorowsky made a doc about himself making a movie in 70s? And he also wrote a graphic novel that's similar to dune? So lost my apologies

Documentary about the failed attempt of that movie in the 70s. Made in 2013.

He started working on graphic novels after the failed attempt of the movie.

Not similar to dune per say but elements of the sci fi universe or characters yes

Lynch’s Dune came out in ‘84. That one was green lit when Jodorowsky’s failed

I see I see, sorry for confusion. Thanks !

No worries man. No need to apologize. You’re welcome

Haha guess not. I just know I'd be huffing and puffing trying to clarify. I am impatient though

All good man. This is fun stuff.

Thanks for the recommendation! I always remember the wild aspects of that movie.

Wait a second. I’ve never even heard of this! Amazing.

Never heard of which part ?

Any of it I thought you were referring to the ‘sting’ version.. and this was a documentary on that.

Oh no Sting is in David Lynch’s Dune. This is version of Dune would have came put a bit before, if it had worked.

I hope you enjoy it

All the work Giger did on this was basically transferred into what we know as the iconic designs of Alien.

Yes. That’s the whole point of this documentary. Super interesting. All the work done on this was transferred to Alien, Dune, Star Wars, a lot of the great sci fi movies we know
