It’s actually easy once you get through the initial carb withdrawal & whatever gut transition you may or may not have to deal with. Carbs & veggies in general cause inflammation. So life without them comes with better sleep, fewer aches & pains, & more mental clarity.

I usually listen to books & podcasts on 2.5 or 3x speed (which I thought was just a skill I was building), but it’s much more difficult (almost impossible) to do if I eat junk food or too many carb-y non-meat items.

Demonizing carbs so generaly is just incorrect. I agree most veggies are unneeded and can have unwanted consequences, including inflammation. Removing carbs completely for extended periods of time can become a stress on the body. Gluconeogenesis (the making of sugar from protein) is stressful on the body and is not sustainable in the long-term. Keto long-term is harmful and even the Inuit, who eat almost no carbs for an extended part of the year, have a genetic mutation to keep them out of ketosis for long periods.

Eating fruits, honey and easily digestible carbs like white rice & potatoes will easily get the body enough carbs to keep it from needing gluconeogenesis. Also, not going to bed without your liver glycogen stores topped off is a receipe for poor sleep.

That has not been my experience at all. Every time I try to add back things like fruit, honey, rice, potatoes, etc the negatives seem to outweigh any possible benefits (and I’m not really sure there is any benefit). I have no problem running 4+ miles with zero carbs. As long as I’m getting enough salt & fat life is generally really good.

The prominent carnivores who have concluded it’s unsustainable are people who heavily promoted liver consumption, & I did not do well when consuming liver. Results seemed consistent with vit-A toxicity. But without it I’m great (5years now), others like Kelly Hogan, Shawn Baker, Joe & Charlene Anderson have been doing the same for even longer with amazing results. Kelly is around 13 or 14 years, the Andersons are over 20

💯

how many times per day do you eat?

no breakfast, a light lunch if I can make time, and dinner.  diet is not great. rarely eat fruit.  Love meat and carbs.

2 meals usually. Ideally ~11 or 12:00 & 4:00 but they often end up a little more spread out. Some days end up being OMAD days because I ate later or ate more than normal or just did less & didn’t get hungry again. 🤷

I’d be fine to do OMAD all the time except that it’s just difficult to consume enough food in one sitting to be satiated for 24 hrs. 2 meals is pretty easy tho.

I did well for about a year plus on basically zero carb (other than the small amounts in liver and eggs), but found my output in exercising started to diminish and started getting brain fog. The inclusion of carbs helped but had to be gradually introduced.

Again, if you’re doing well then I’m not going to be the one to say to change anything, but I just don’t think the dogmatic approach of “carbs are bad” is correct either(I’m not implying you said that).

Also, have you tried making your own raw milk kefir? I feel like that was a huge help to my overall gut health.

Sounds like liver (vit-A toxicity: sluggishness, fatigue, depression…) might have been your problem too…?

My ability to exercise diminished some at first (as expected), & then only improved with time. My experiment with liver was definitely a temporary step backwards, so I quit that. My progress when running & lifting comes very fast now. I have not had issues with brain fog while eating a liver free & carb free carnivore diet. I have added whole fat yogurt here & there, which has a few carbs & has helped some with gut issues, but it seems to have a negative effect on my skin. I think that’s just dairy related.

Plain coconut yogurt seems like it might be better. And coconut oil on a regular basis appears to be helpful too. While they aren’t really carnivore they are pretty keto friendly.

My reactions to dairy just kinda make me want to avoid kefir. Is there something I’m going to get from that which I can’t get from a high quality live culture yogurt once in a while?

I've had good results after cutting out added salt

i like some carbs before competition or max out lifting days, need smt for the body to burn fast.

but reducing them by 95% and avoiding sugar completely makes me feel great
