I've been daydreaming about getting a Jeep too.
The one person who had advice for me so far said they are unreliable and expensive to fix, but he's not a mechanic..
I'd like to hear some more thoughts on this
Good car and should last a while.
I’ve never heard of anyone having a good experience with the newer jeeps. The old ones were great and were very reliable. That’s not the case anymore. They do have a great look.
I have a 96 Wrangler, as well.
I've got some good Jeeper friends that definitely have their opinions on what's good/what's not these days. I feel most newer vehicles are trash....
What do you want it for? Jeeps are purpose built. They’re not great to drive. They aren’t economical. They’re just really good at off road tasks.
I personally am a huge fan of the VW TDI platform. I got a 2013 gen 2 TDI Touareg and it’s an amazing machine. Drives beautifully and is very comfortable. Gets 50% better fuel economy than any gasoline SUV with at least 25% more power. Wasn’t expensive. Tows beautifully and absolutely rips in snow / off road. It’s not purpose built rock crawl or mud but is very capable moving around off road. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.
I love my 2013 but... If you do buy, check to see if the oil filter housing has been replaced with an aluminum one. The original is plastic & it will crack all the way down to the oil cooler if your filter gets even a bit over tightened. If it hasn't been, either ask to have it done or do it.
