Apparently nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m was invited to give a talk at FOSDEM and lots of people got upset about it. I have no idea if the talk will happen, but I do wonder if these guys protesting understand that the vast majority of open source projects are sponsored and funded by corporations. To not include and understand the motivations of those companies and how they use and support open source feels like willful ignorance.

The first freedom of free software is that you can run the code for any purpose, including as a business making money it capitalism.

Luckily a Nostr crew is there to share the Nostr message and support nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m

Capitalism is a moral imperative.

No talk, but a #FOSDEM Nostr booth 🫶

You wut mate

Not a jack talk 😂 … but still a Nostr talk would be more accurate, Web Uf Trust 🤓

If he doesn’t have to give a talk man should take a vacation …

Talk is still on the schedule for Sunday 15h?

Some people can not fathom that a person can actually change. In my opinion Jack isn't the same person he was years ago and he made amendments and he stood up to his previous mistakes. Something the majority of those judging him will never comprehend.

Key principles for using Bayesian thinking:

1. **Start with base rates**: Always consider how common something is in general

2. **Weigh evidence quality**: Strong evidence should change beliefs more than weak evidence

3. **Update gradually**: Change beliefs in steps as new information comes in

4. **Avoid extremes**: Be cautious about 0% or 100% certainty

5. **Consider alternative explanations**: Look for other possibilities. nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m

I totally again. He feels like a different person.

Jack is the same as any human. He’s made mistakes. Sometimes I think people expect him to be perfect all the time. It’s not fair to hold anyone to that standard. But Ima biased AF as a retired TYPE A …

Anticapitalists complaining about capitalism in one of the most beautiful cities capitalism created and enjoying per-capita incomes, life expectancies and education levels we can only dream about (and fight for) in LATAM, is just twistedly funny to watch.

Bayes' Theorem and show how it applies to everyday decision-making and belief updating.

Let me explain how Bayes' Theorem helps us think better in everyday life:

1. **Starting Point (Prior)**: Begin with your initial belief about something. For example:

- "I think there's a 50% chance it will rain tomorrow"

- "I believe there's a 30% chance this restaurant is good"

2. **New Evidence**: You get new information that could change your belief:

- Weather: You see dark clouds gathering

- Restaurant: You see many positive reviews

3. **Update Your Belief**: Bayes' Theorem helps you rationally update your initial belief based on the new evidence.

Real-life examples:

1. **Job Interview**

- Prior: 40% chance of getting the job (based on typical odds)

- Evidence: Interview went very well

- Update: Increase your estimate to perhaps 60-70%

2. **Medical Diagnosis**

- Prior: 1% chance of having a condition (population average)

- Evidence: Positive test result (80% accurate)

- Update: New probability considering both pieces of information

3. **Relationship Red Flags**

- Prior: 80% chance relationship is healthy

- Evidence: Partner shows concerning behavior

- Update: Revise assessment based on new information

Key principles for using Bayesian thinking:

1. **Start with base rates**: Always consider how common something is in general

2. **Weigh evidence quality**: Strong evidence should change beliefs more than weak evidence

3. **Update gradually**: Change beliefs in steps as new information comes in

4. **Avoid extremes**: Be cautious about 0% or 100% certainty

5. **Consider alternative explanations**: Look for other possibilities

They hate us because of our freedom!

The Jack thread turned into a flu vaccine discussion.

interesting

Stop eating Coxiños & do something, ffs.

wasn't this talk scheduled for last week or something? seems like these guys are definitely somewhat CLOSED minded.

Probably getting paid to protest too

The classic #BSD vs #GPL

The raging Mastodon circle-jerk demanded it

Being poor also is a problem, being a billionaire is also a problem, there is no win is satisfying people =)

But when it comes to protest, the protestors should at least get the manifesto facts right lah. That was so badly written and made no sense.

Jack is like a kid in a candy store when it comes to open source. It's their loss.

Really sad, they missed the opportunity to discuss and study new dynamics to make open source sustainable.

Never questioning oneself, always questioning others, is a big limitation.

more attention than Fosdem has ever received

totally lame

When you get the masses you’ll get a percentage of dumbs. When the total gets bigger so does the mass of the dumbs. When the dumbs meet each other they clog things. It’s just part of the gig. They get to have opinions. Your wits just have to be sharp and your well thought out efforts need to be mixed with enough well structure rhetoric that the dumbs are satiated.

And for anyone reading this, you’re not one of the dumbs, of course. But they’re out there. So just stay smart and we’ll get through this together.

This is why GPL kind of drives me nuts

Wonder who organized that protest, seems suspicious
