#asknostr

I’m trying to navigate the decentralized nature of this ecosystem here and I have been very frustrated today trying to figure out some things. Maybe some of you more experienced people can help.

I know that NWC is a protocol that exists. But everything I find about it seems to try to force me through alby and only alby. I’m trying to put through podcasts, music, and the like, but the individual zaps for each platform don’t connect without NWC. Apps like blue wallet say that they support it, but then I can’t figure out where to find or generate the NWC to pull my sats together. I’m very lost.

For context, iOS phone, windows computer. Yes, I’ve flipped between the two.

sorry about iOS 😂

Can you run Alby hub? Self host it?

So, when I tried that, it wanted to link email PLUS ask for card payments that were only good for 3 months. That seems like a lot of up front investment for the $1 usd equivalent I’ve gotten zapped so far. I’d rather not be putting that much money into this if it isn’t going to pay for itself.

Alby Hub is free and open source software. You self host it!

*can

I set up several times thinking I was mistaken. But every time it wants either an on chain transfer or a $20 payment just to host a lightning address. Free my ass.

The $20 payment goes to the professional channel provider (cost range: $8-$25). In return you receive a channel with instant receiving capacity and great routing capacity. A channel is fundamental to send and receive payments on the lightning network

Your lightning address is independent of your Alby Hub wallet. Your lightning address is a feature in your Alby Account on getalby.com. Every Alby Account gets a free lightning address.

In the meantime, you can use it as a self-custody lightning address, and in the future it will also have NWC.

Try it here:

How far off is “soon”?

Soon ™

You could use LNbits

I am also not too big fan of AlbyHub

Looking at the GitHub and it looks complicated as hell to set up.

Check start9

I only see 5 installation options. The rest is all docking stuff (in the installation guide)

Google start9 / embassy

That’s the whole system that is intended to host sovereign apps

So the istall is mostly one click

Thank you. I’m definitely looking into that

Have you tried cashu.me yet? This is a wallet you can set up in a browser, add a mint (minibits?), and generate an NWC string. Remember to save your seed phrase, and make a note of your mints for recovery.

I have not heard of that yet.

Just type it into your browser and go from there. It’s been cropping up more and more of late. Ecash and lightning payments etc. I’m still trying it out on a test account, but seems positive so far.

Thank you. I will when I get home from work.

Just following on from this, yesterday I found access to nostr:npub1kvaln6tm0re4d99q9e4ma788wpvnw0jzkz595cljtfgwhldd75xsj9tkzv via TestFlight on iOS.

This seems to be working really well, and one of the easier setups. Create an NWC string for each app (to be able to see where zaps got sent from I guess).

Seems really smooth so far.

Thank you. I’ll check it out when I get home.

Thank's for trying. So far, Minibits is available over the Testflight. For EU users, installation is possible from freedomstore.io
