So now I can upload images to Nostr directly in the Damus app. Where are those images hosted, and for how long? Also, where are my “tweets” stored actually? #NoobQs

An image service like imgurl , nostr.build , void.cat will host it , your information on nostr is stored by the relays , but they will not hold it forever, if you want to keep it , consider a backup relay like umbrel offers.

Check out image hosting options in damus settings.

There are no tweets here, ser. Notes are published to relays.

https://nostr.build

or

forever

notes are stored on relays, that store notes

The image is uploaded using Nostr.build, and removes metadata. Your “tweets” - or more accurately, “events,” are posted to and visible from any relays that you are connected to. Anyone can host a relay, so it’s very different than the big corporate server model.

Somebody else can give a more technical explanation than I can

You are the one in charge of your posts. Currently the relays generally do the job of also caching them, but that won't be forever.

You can run your "personal" relay just for the purpose of persisting your posts (there's an easy way to do it with Umbrel node).

If I run my “personal” relay with Umbrel can I also backup my older posts?

Ser, they're called notes here

Solid questions. Can I pin this question somehow to keep tabs on the answers?

Did no one answer this for you? Or are my relays not showing me engagement?

Got many responses!

Depends on your pick. I also host some pictures and gifs I use on my website. In the “early” days Nostrbuild was not available I would just upload it there:
