Your Nostr reach is directly proportional to how much you invest on your Outbox relays.

Make sure your Public Outbox/Home relays are fast. If you are using a relay that takes its time to update its cache and your post takes a couple minutes to show up, most people will not see it. They have moved on to more recent posts. They will need to scroll back in time to find your post.

I had no idea. Do you have any specific suggestions on relays. How does one know if the relay is fast?

Ya Victor, any suggestions? is my outbox good?

Somebody might need to run some tests in production. There are many things that affect that speed, including:

- Spam detection procedures

- Database Index refresh

- Key priority (paid users go first) to both post and see a post

- Content classification tools (safe for kids relays)

- Event redistribution to the CDN servers in separate locations

But you talked about delays in the minutes. Nostr isn't at that level of adoption is it? Which relay has a backlog of minutes?

I opened your note in Incognito windows with primal and with coracle to see when my other reply would hit and more shockingly than a delay, I noticed it did not show the reply at all until I hit reload.

But Coracle reported to have seen replies within a second on 3 relays, so ... either I have good relays or your problem isn't as dire as you made us believe it was. Either way, I wish somebody would monitor things like that. I actually have bought a domain for that and would fund engineers to work on that.

I assume you are using good relays. Most users have accepted whatever their first client has offered and many clients used to randomize relays from nostr.watch to try to decentralize the network from the bigger ones. When people don't know which relays they use, things can be quite slow.

a couple of minutes?!? who is just sitting and waiting at the top of the "newest" feed for items to appear? and if they are, won't they see every new item - including the note in question - as long as they didn't start their client at the same moment the note was posted?

100%. This is mostly an excuse. Post something about Bitcoin, a meme, or a picture of a steak, and you’ll have people interacting with your post for hours. People certainly do engage with older notes. I'm engaging with your note (and Victor's original) note right now, what, half an hour after it was originally posted?

The truth is, Nostr note visibility across the network unfortunately depends on one of the Nostr celebrity accounts with lots of followers interacting with it. This serves two purposes: first, it ensures others see it; second, it makes them feel "safe" engaging with it. You can blast your posts to every single popular relay on Nostr in milliseconds and still get no engagement if you're not posting about the right content with a celebrity account endorsing it.

So basically, being ignored on Nostr is partly due to centralisation around certain accounts and partly because most folks here are very picky about what they interact with.

The best solution is to stop chasing interactions. We need more people just doing their own thing. Talking to themselves using hashtags if necessary, as well as clicking on the hashtags that they have just used and boosting, zapping, and engaging with content from their favourite hashtags.

Good tip, thanks

I'm currently running a WoT relay for myself. Would the Haven relay by utxo be a better option for a personal outbox relay? I'm assuming this isn't just ping time, but includes the relay needing to process incoming notes and outgoing requests. I've been thinking of switching to that anyways, I'd like to play with the included blossom server for image hosting.

Ping is just the time to ack a new event. Some relays do a lot between that ack and the event being available in filters for followers. I am not sure how to measure that yet.

I'm assuming haven would be faster. WoT relay does a lot of work pulling in notes from the network, plus has small periods of downtime when it recalculates the trust network. Haven would be focused just on my notes. What do you think nostr:nprofile1qqsw9n8heusyq0el9f99tveg7r0rhcu9tznatuekxt764m78ymqu36cpr3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucnfw33k76twwpshy6ewvdhk6tcpzdmhxue69uhhwmm59e6hg7r09ehkuef0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtn4w3ux7tn0dejj7ne6u4e ?

They're both roughly the same. WoT building and sorting happens on a different thread than the listener serving notes . There is no note cache

It's all khatu in the end of the day 🤣. Also, since Blastr is a thing (horrible workaround, but that's what needs to be done to compensate for broken or no Inbox / Outbox support on clients), I don't think that we can blame relay latency here. My Haven instance is blasting to like a gazillion relays in a few hundred milliseconds. So, other than Haven, I expect at least a few other big / all powerful relays to start serving notes almost instantaneously.

How do I check?

How about this?

remove nostr.band and Alby. They are not good outbox relays. Alby only accepts NWC payments, none of your events are saved there.

Many thanks!

nostr:npub1n0stur7q092gyverzc2wfc00e8egkrdnnqq3alhv7p072u89m5es5mk6h0 starts where you left off rather than the top of the feed / most recent content. It’s doom scrolling in the opposite direction.

Nice client! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing!

Would be nice if the client can give some feedback on selected relays.
