Loaded up with eggs today. 1 day of laying= 18 highly nutritious eggs. The flavor of these yolks are second to none. Someone told me eggs were $7 a dozen at the store. I think we’re on to something here…

Wow. Nice one.

We get over $10 a dozen for pasture raised, soy-free eggs and can’t keep them in stock. Once you’ve tasted a real egg you can’t go back.

They are so good.

I’ve been using a local feed mill ration with whole oats added.

My flock of 30 went from laying about 7-8/day to double that once I started adding the oats, biochar and offering a fermented mix.

I turn a 50lb sack into bokashi and feed at 5 percent

Hmm 🤔 I n ed to try that. I have a sack of bokashi ready for use.

They seem to really enjoy it.

Yes eggs have gotten expensive lately.

I’ve started selling to my family. They are more thank happy at $5-6/dz with our eggs

Thats a bargain. I just saw "organic" eggs at the store for over $7.

This should be a good year to start making a return from them. We’re sitting at about $45/mo for feed. I may start selling some layers and/or chicks bc I really enjoy the incubation process.

We were just discussing trying to incubate some eggs too, with an old incubator my husband used when he raised quail. Or i have a friend that incubates all the time, and she's happy to give me some chicks. Our numbers have dwindled due to that damned bobcat. But its good that you are making a little money from yours.

Hopefully the new coop will keep that bobcat at bay.

Yep, we'll see.

Im getting rather cockish on eggs

😂 the best part is we hatched out half of this flock. I need to learn more about cross breeding.

Awesome. Ive been hatching all my birds since 2012. I havent crossed any breeds but I have been tempted to walk down that road. I keep one breed, partridge chantecler.

Do they like getting in the pear trees?

JK!! ha

This is our second year with mostly Rhode Island reds and buff Orpington.

We have a red roo

The odd balls are a pair of Americanas, a pair of leghorns, and a solo grey(not sure her breed) she lays blue eggs that have a hard shell.

Ive been intrigued by the RI reds. The roo have a good temperament?

Same situation here. People we sell to were complaining about our price of $4 a dozen this past summer. They seem a little subdued now. 😏

At this point I have family reaching out for eggs and happy to pay for quality.
