Take a moment today to remember that Keonne Rodriguez turned himself into prison. Where he’ll stay for the next 5 years. For writing open source privacy software.
Discussion
Five years in prison for writing open-source privacy software.
That tells us a lot about the world we’re living in.
The state the world is in is sad. Just sad.

That he had to plead guilty because he knew that the law as written would not be respected is perhaps the darkest aspect
🎯💯
That should be an eye opener for everyone in this space esp after Assange... Now the fact that the law(s) will be disregarded almost entirely to get at you should be factored into the development process for any of these ecryption products
Punishment, control, & fear=
The Nation State
So far, #bitcoin has not fixed this....
Doesn't make much sense to me. Bitcoin does give me hope. Opt out. Maybe we can make a difference
I know, yesterday I watched the Video from nostr:npub1rxysxnjkhrmqd3ey73dp9n5y5yvyzcs64acc9g0k2epcpwwyya4spvhnp8
I wonder what happened today to the western world governments, this is injustice and against the freedom we got promised from our western world governments! Hey people, we must spread that Video, share the hell out of it. You will find it nostr:npub1rxysxnjkhrmqd3ey73dp9n5y5yvyzcs64acc9g0k2epcpwwyya4spvhnp8 YouTube channel.
Been praying for him and family - blessings to all the freedom warriors.
He should be free.
And pleaded guilty because the thug judge they swapped in at the 11th hour didn’t allow critical evidence and was going to give him 25 years. Being forced to plead guilty when you didn’t do it, but doing it anyway because they are going to hit you with maximum penalties is disgusting. And I can’t even imagine how demoralizing.
Yup. Super f-ed.
In the future anybody doing this, take the tip....be like Satoshi
Hopefully:
- first Trump pardons them
- and then people understand that despite the pardon the situation is totally fucked up.
When you sip your coffee. When you go for a walk. When you hig someone you love.
This is not a game. This is not a hobbie.
This is a war.
Get your head out of your ass and put it on a swivel. Everything is on the line.
Wasn’t it because he was running the mixing service? Don’t get me wrong- it’s a mark of a tyrannical regime still and others have been put in jail for writing open source software, but his case is not about the software itself - at least that was my understanding
Good time exists, he won't have to do the whole 5.
Doesn’t matter. No one should spend a single day in jail for building a tool that someone, somewhere used for an illegal purpose.
May he be pardoned shortly!!!!
Do you know something the rest of us don’t?
The posts of him celebrating early Christmas with his family and Shia wife watching him walk in to prison were rough.
Let’s work on getting another pardon done during this administration.
Let’s fight for freedom fir our own soldiers 🫡🧡🗽
He will stay in prison for just writing open source code, while many crypto scammers are completely free without facing any kind of legal issues. This world is insane!
No. He:s not in prison for writting software.
They accused him of something else and he plead guilty.
Any idea what else they accused him of?
He's in prison for talking shit. The documents are full of quotes of his Twitter posts, forum posts, telegram chats, whatever, where he explicitly said his business is helping criminals, or money laundering, or inviting exchange thieves to use his mixer...
AM NOT saying this is morally enough to jail him. A lot of this was obvious joking. But it is 100% talking shit and it gave the Feds what they needed on a silver platter to establish "intent" and it was used against him, whether he held funds or not.
I hope he gets his pardon though.
https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/founders-samourai-wallet-cryptocurrency-mixing-service-plead-guilty says they plead guilty to "operating a money transmitting business that transmitted crime proceeds, washing more than $200 million in dirty money for criminals"
5 years is the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed money transmitting business. They could have faced the same even if they did it on paper at that scale.
Take a moment to reflect on what the case of Keonne Rodriguez reveals.
Creating open-source software to protect privacy should never be a crime.
And yet, this man is now deprived of his freedom for defending a fundamental right.
This situation exposes a disturbing reality: when privacy becomes inconvenient, it becomes a target.
Under the guise of security, governments seek to tighten their control over citizens at the expense of our freedoms.
Defending privacy is not about hiding crimes, it is about protecting our rights.
Silencing those who build digital privacy tools puts everyone at risk.
Spread the word.
Privacy is not a luxury, it is a right.
Keonne Rodriguez must be freed.
History will remember this as a crime against freedom, not justice. Writing code is not violence. Punishing it is fear.
