it was great for a while, for me at least. felt free of alllll that bullshit, people just muted or blocked instead of quoting to yell. then i think it just got too big for the ability to keep up moderating it. and culture shift with each new influx of course. now its all fighting and vitriol and Discourse Takes

right now nostr is pretty bad at this, but I think eventually we will be able to offer those looking for a utopia of only like minded people a product eventually, activity pub (mastodon) is actually great at this, nostr’s version will be more personal utopia than server admins utopia, but what some want is vitriol & discourse, and they will say they want this but won’t take it when offered.

yeah a lot of people //say// they want a community of just people who think like them— until they get there and theres no one to yell at but each other

then they eat the server admin alive

just like they’ve done with the bsky team. it just keeps happening

There’s no sys admin here though.

nostr isn’t an app, it’s a technology. It’s a technology for a lot of different apps to talk to each other.

The result is that content gets stored in lots of different places and nobody can control what is on the network.

so right now we don’t have the tooling to offer the trade of controlling others for a personal utopia, I believe what nos social is working on will end up allowing an opt in product that will be what the vitriolic’s have always claim they want, but I also believe they won’t take it… note it’s always concern for what other see but they themselves can tolerate it enough to react to it.

that won’t be for me btw, I mute airdrops only.

Controlling others?

Nothing to do with tooling, we don’t have the authority or the consent. Or the need!

I think you should re-read what I said.

I’ll break it down for you a bit…

trade

controlling others (abandon, give up, you give this away)

for

a personal utopia

I have no idea what you mean though?

Give away controlling others, and receive a personal utopia?

Nobody controls others?

So nothing to trade.

the whole point of being able to block someone, for instance, on bluesky introduced a bunch of changes to their plans and architecture, because you have to control what someone else can see and not just what you see. People coming to nostr will have to trade that away.

Did you read the recently issued apology they put out about controlling user names?

I saw a giant wall of corporate text, I didn’t realise they expected anyone to read it?

If so, it should have been 1 paragraph.

just admit you entered the conversation late and lacked some context šŸ«‚ no one’s calling for that here.

I can agree that I have no idea about Blue Sky. I’ve never used it.

I was just pointing out that there is no system admin on nostr. So nobody will answer drama.

As far as I can tell, Blue Sky seems to be a Twitter clone for people who hate Tesla guy?

if you just hate Tesla guy you go to threads. bluesky has the hard core social justice experts, not just virtue signaling progressives (well maybe the dev team), but the hard core radicals.

imo, threads is for if you hate that guy but miss the brands & celebs on twitter, bsky is for if you hate that guy but miss the community you built on twitter

fair, but no one’s like reacting to you rebuilding that there on here the way when it’s mentioned here we’re talking about the radials making that hard for y’all to just have pre 2015 twitter back.

oh word yeah. god how i miss when twitter was fun and games

2008 Twitter was the fucking best. No hashtags, no image uploads. Just speak your peace up to 140 characters and have fun until the site went down for three hours.

i fucken remember that !! no quote rts. hell. manual copy-paste retweets

That’s why I don’t mind that doing stuff here is a pain in the ass sometimes. I started on BBSs and 1200 baud modems, motherfuckers!

reminds me of my linux childhood days lmao. was so confusing at first but now im helping people out

It seemed to me to be the place where most of the acronym kids went to so they could post the raunchier stuff that wasn’t permitted on other places.

yes, and to be able to post anything with fewer harassing assholes. tbh. lotta people have a problem with harassing people they disagree with when they could just move on

And then they became the thing they hated most.

bingo

speaking of assholes I saw someone comparing a literal gaping asshole to tits, and expressed that moderation was uneven, I thought that was an incredibly interesting moral dilemma despite not being pro moderation.

interesting. like i know a big issue with the labeler i had is that nipples, even clothed or barely noticeable, would trigger a label of ā€œsexually explicitā€ from the AI. was their argument related to that kind of thing?

*nipples, but only if the AI thought they belonged to a woman

and they want everyone else to see it too ! theyll quote to yell and make everyone else see it too. its like bringing their followers a dead bird

They can actually, but nostr is better than all of the other options.

This is the result of a generation or two of kids who always got a participation trophy.

idk i got a participation prize once as a kid and i fucking cried it felt awful. i think a lot of the trophies were just so parents didnt have to admit their kid wasnt special tbh

it would interfere with the lesson they were teaching to their kids if the world didnt reward them as ✨special and perfect ✨

egocentric parent => egocentric kid

i think everyone is //unique// in their combination of traits but we all have similarity with each other that outweighs our difference

went to a school for dyslexia in 5th and 6th grade and the awards ceremonies, that happened semesterly latest like 3 hours šŸ˜‚ and everyone knew 99% of the awards were bullshit.

To me it’s honestly reminded me of something I’ve seen from a lot of alternative social media.

Everything feels wonderful at first, everyone’s cordial and friendly, every argument’s taken with some level of consideration towards keeping some level of peace…

But then, at a certain point - perhaps with enough people joining - it all kinda collapses. I’ve kinda wondered if I’ll ever find a place where this doesn’t happen at some point in time.

fingers crossed its here im tired of joining new socials

I’m so happy you’re with us nostr:npub1lj7k87jwg7s0hnl20tjksv2qfhmz2v0rx9lhwx9e69pqllw7w64seyx6hf and I don’t think there is anywhere to go after #nostr.
