So now the U.S. tiktokers who had a financial income for their influencer videos what are they going to do? 🤔
Olas it's not ready for them.
Nostr, it's not ready for them.

learn to code?
can we handle this overdose of truth?
The good thing about Nostr and Olas is that these would be the best places for U.S TikTokers to come to from a financial standpoint since you can start monetizing without having to reach a certain quota. I imagine it may be challenging in the beginning for TikTok refugees to learn how to use things like Nostr, Bitcoin, and the Lightning Network though.
I agree, however Nostr is not ready to welcome them and this is the problem.
How are they not welcoming exactly?
There is no real alternative to tik tok on Nostr, there are pale imitations that need a lot of time to develop.
I'm working on it. Check out @NextBlock.
Nostr is too dissimilar to be a haven for most TikTockers. ByteDance originally released Douyin; then bought Musical.ly, and they merged to create TikTok. Another similar app will appear, or the sale will go through. Many have jumped to RedNote while waiting to see what Trump is going to do about it.
It’s been shocking to me (in a good, world peace sort of way), watching the droves of Americas flooding onto RedNote all week.
There are some Nostr clients that at least partially resemble TikTok. Amethyst for instance has a videos section identical to that of the one on TikTok, although it fortunately it very glitchy. Olas is also pretty close too. I really hope there is a new Nostr client that mimics the design of TikTok completely or a new NIP is created for TikTok-like videos altogether.
Jumping from one cage to another as some of X have done by going to bsky does not solve anything, as you well know.
My criticism is aimed at those who have not yet had the opportunity to create a real alternative to tik tok on Nostr.
Certainly, it doesn't seem to have been a priority. While TikTok has been a huge source of income for many creators, I honestly don't see much overlap with Nostr users—aside from a few cross-posts here and there.
It's unfortunate to see people lose their platform, but there's a classic lesson here: never build your house on someone else's land. This applies to all social media platforms, both centralized and decentralized.
The best strategy for most remains to use these communication channels to connect with and direct like-minded people to platforms you control—your own website and your own mailing list/forum.
tbh we can do without platforms that incentivize race-to-the-bottom attention seeking content.
not that they'll ever cease to exist
but I dont see lamenting their demise either.
Agreed. And dancing on the graves of creatives who you may not respect / agree with / or understand is not necessary. Your final paragraph is a super important one and a lesson I had to learn as well many moons ago!
it better that they start to learn something about how things work
rather than find another platform for producing short attention grabbing content
viola
"storage isn't free?" 🤔

That was painful to read, but he's probably speaking for all newbies, there.
Just the basic ideas, that storing data costs money, or that you could store your own data, or that media are separate from text, is a nonstarter for most of them.
for sure.
but maybe a few of them will learn something.
just being here
even for a little while
could have an impact.
Yeah. Using Nostr actually teaches you how social media really works.
I know about zero people, outside of Nostr, who realize that the images on websites are not part of the HTML, they're just linked to from there.
people who used steemit and its clones learned about that tho, nostr:npub1cxp3l03x20mkzezzr4takm8w8zuva7xwvacmcewp97z58hjt8xls3mexlq was one of my compatriats from there - he still uses the community-take-over after Justin Sun turned the steemit.com app into a koreabot fest - it also uses markdown, as well
but yeah, most average people, they have no idea about anything of how it's done
Isn't it amazing that nobody know what hypertext means/is?
OP (nostr:npub1f6ugxyxkknket3kkdgu4k0fu74vmshawermkj8d06sz6jts9t4kslazcka ) already addressed your points.
And just like 99% of Bitcoiners who don’t run a node, 99.99% of ex Tik Tokers will not host their own video server and jump over to #nostr . Not never, but not yet ;)
People working 9 to 5 jobs drained by fiat, taxes, and fees, the last thing they want to do is learn how Data Storage centers work.
People want gratification, if we can't offer that to them then we lose.
I dont agree they are necessary
but do agree the vast majority won't find nostr or stay if they do.
just saying it will have a positive impact.
disruption is good.
At times, one needs to look outside the box , alas
I think if you are planning on making a living as an influencer you shouldn’t be reliant on any single platform in the first place. Ideally you would already have some sort of presence on X, Instagram or YouTube as well to keep earning some income that you can then build further on.
I would like to see more people using Nostr as it could solve some of these issues but I agree that we need something like Olas to be ready to get any sort of mass adoption.
I guess no one plans to make money on tik tok, the algorithm has made people famous who maybe didn't even want to be famous and now they're left holding the baby.
Yeah I guess that’s true and there will some who “accidentally” became influencers and hadn’t considered that the platform they were using could be shut down.. The only option they have is to try and rebuild a following elsewhere or wait and see if Trump does overturn the ban.
There can't be enough money for everyone because no matter how much money you print, there isn't enough food for everyone to buy with whatever amount of money you've printed.
People will continue losing incomes and some of them will simply die instead of being able to solve the problem they're faced with.
People don't care about Digit, so I'm numb to the sadness of it.
maybe you could have written the tiktok nostr replacement instead of just making useless paintings every day?
I'm sorry you don't like my paintings.
If I were a developer I would never have made a replacement for Tik Tok anyway.
Hai avuto anche fin troppa classe a rispondergli così.
Ma no figurati.
Se i miei dipinti piacessero a tutti ovviamente ne sarei felice.
Ma già il fatto che piacciano a pochi e quei pochi li hanno voluti per sé, mi riempie già di soddisfazione.
I like your paintings, but they are not useful
I was /extremely/ hopeful when I joined Nostr that it could grow and prosper into a real social media.
Nope, it grew up to be and then stagnated as a bitcoiner bubble. x.x kool...
Can you spell out what you consider as not ready? While I do agree that some things are missing, there are some things that are present that offer unlimited earning potential for someone that is actually skilled in influencing. Can you get people to follow and join you on Nostr or not?
There is also the opportunity for First Mover Advantage all over again. Most niches are saturated on TikTok, Reels, Shorts, etc. Again, if you can actually command a following, you have massive opportunity.
They can post content and do lives on Zap.stream and earn sats with 0% going to the house unlike TikTok taking the lionshare. What is missing is the TikTok Store where they can push products for companies.
But I am interested in hearing what else you've got.
What I consider "not ready" primarily revolves around the user experience and tools for creators to scale effectively.
While Nostr offers potential with sats earnings and First Mover Advantage, it still lacks robust discovery algorithms, intuitive interfaces, and integrated commerce features like TikTok's store or Instagram's store or Etsy.
These are critical for mass adoption and creator monetization. The opportunity is clear, but widespread success depends on bridging these gaps to match or surpass competitors.
Tooling is definitely lacking. Thanks for the thoughful response.
Oh that's the point again. Recently have seen something on 'misplaced' Bugatti. And some other guy stated, that the sole point of work of art is it's primal beauty. Painting doesn't 'need' to be 'useful'. It exists on its own as a manifesto. Period.
🔥🎨
I would absolutely contribute to development bounties for a replacement app. Nostr can do this, it just hasn't been done yet.
