I donât know FrankâŠâŠfree passports? My brain is telling me if somebody is offering something for free, it must be something that not many people wantâŠ..
Discussion
I would be tempted nonetheless đ
Have you been?
Interesting fact, if a woman has four kids in Hungary, sheâs exempt from income taxes for life.q
No, a friend went in 2022. He liked it and enjoyed his time there but had big concerns about it being too close to a dictatorship despite adopting freedom money. As well, the treatment of gangs locked up was concerning...theyve already lost freedom, no need to abuse them. I would be interested in going.
Me too.
I guess to overcome the forces there previously one might need to meet them where they were at and rule with absolute power? But would hope bukele would steer more toward democracy. I am sure this takes time. And this is me being very optimistic. On the other hand, absolute power corrupts and one can lose sight of dispersing power easily.
Yes I agree. It will take time and itâs not fair to judge his methods at this point.
If this passport thing is true then I take it as a sign that he is steering in the right direction. I dont think you invite intellectuals if you plan to be a dictator. Just as Mao wiped a bunch out to establish his power.
My point was more to the fact that he has to offer something for free. Highly skilled individuals have the opportunity to go anywhere in the world.
Most desirable places make individuals buy property, start a business, or invest a certain dollar amount to gain access to a passport. And people are more than willing to pay these âpricesâ to have a passport from these areas.
One passport from a Eurozone member gives you access to a boatload of countries, free education for your kids, stability, rule of law etc.
Itâs early, and yes heâs making changes, but giving away passports doesnât seem like a âgoodâ thing to me.
Yeah, we both know nothing is really free so what is the cost then? đ€
The opportunity costs of moving to a more desirable country.
But I hear you can hodl hard! đ
Bringing more bitcoin and more people who likely have more than the locals.
Sounds like a good idea.
Probably corruption- as most governments. But maybe better than most.
People I know that have been really like the country side, smaller towns.
Yeah, they are looking to attract your talent. Countries make these kind of concessions all of the time. Ireland for example offers low tax, that's why the tech industry likes to have their headquarters here, otherwise they would just go to somewhere else. I see it as a smart move if I'm being honest.
That being said, I remember reading somewhere else, that at one point they were 'selling' passports for Bitcoin, which is a differen't sort of vibe, not so sure about that. I would wonder how hard it is to get a passport anyways, if you were to just apply for one?
They want a shit ton of bitcoin, Or fiat.
To expensive in my opinion. Hundreds of thousands of usd.
But I think youâre missing my point. Why would someone who could get a passport elsewhere choose to get one from El Salvador?
Giving away a passport to attract people who can get a passport from any other country doesnât matter.
They are still years away from attracting those individuals, who are willing to pay millions in investment to raise their families, start their businesses, and to build their homes elsewhere.
A passport from most countries is usually $200,000. + and more for family coming with you.
And millions of people are lining up from around the world to pay it. For a reason.
Itâs a lot cheaper if you marry into one đ
Most countries have a point system, and if you and your spouse are professionals, and are in high demand professions, you donât have to pay anythjng.
