You are a marketing consulting and nostr addict at the same time.
Some day, a huge company approaches you and want your advise on how to market properly on nostr. They have a juicy budget and no idea how nostr works.
What would you recommend them?
Study Bitcoin first, understand who they gonna deal with 😂 Hire Bitcoiners, run a relay, provide value. If they real, we will embrace them. If they grifters, GFY

This is getting closer to the ideas I have on how advertising of the future will look like!
If you want a slightly more refined, less cynical idea - just as #[2] said, run your own relay and provide value -- and instead of charging people, pay them to be on your relay. You wouldn't even have to zap them.
The question then becomes how do you make sure it's people, not bots, and that they're actually engaged, not just passively raking in the sats.
There will be a lot of questions popping up I guess😅
Of course, and if you're in marketing you'll be acutely aware of the fact that you will eventually have to make "arbitrary" decisions (which you will have to dress up with "objective data", but will still be arbitrary), and live with them every time the bean counters question you :)
I think private relays for brands could be a nice way to drive brand engagements but I don’t foresee ads here. I mean at all.
Private and also topic related relays. Advertising will come to nostr 💯 as long as nostr keeps on growing. But definitely not the way we know them from Twitter, insta, Facebook…
Of course brands would want to attract the audience here but I wouldn’t call it advertising. I like the topic related relays idea.
Observe trends here, lose corpo speak, interact with nostriches. They would need a genuinely nice and interesting person to manage their account here. Staying on top on nips would be important too. Why would I follow a company if they not interesting or not providing any value to me? Getting a random zap wouldn’t be enough. Its gonna be tough for boomers here.
Do you think that sending zaps to kind of targeted people could generate any engagement or even buys?
I would advice them to direct their marketing budget to sponsoring Nostr devs like #[2] does.
This would align the brand values they’d want to promote to the values of Nostr users.
Unfortunately few brands want to align with free speech and censorship resistance and would rather push ESG-approved values atm.
It’s a sad truth. Even though your idea would be mostly branding, I think this would help some brands reputation tremendously.

Tell them “ah non profit org this protocol, maybe buy some Bitcoin in case it catches on” and then return later

Having people to follow you and call for reply to your notes and pay 1000 Sats each, and you get thousands of followers keenly waiting in queue to respond. Do this everyday, maybe just once, to keep the audience and expand your audience base.
Have a message people want to hear, or a product that solves problems.
