What supplement, habit, routine, etc do you swear by?

Not looking to hear anything about exercise, water consumption, diet, or sleep hygiene. What is something you’ve implemented in your life that you believe yields results?

Discipline

Bruh…

Too easy? 😏

You’re always so helpful Alex🥰

Discipline in sarcasm.

That’s new.

If you’re salty because bb had a tough morning climbing I can give you a few pointers. I’ll bring the chalk

I did. Do you know how badly I’m going to hurt? It hasn’t set in yet. I’m going to have noodles for limbs for a few days. Hmm, and bring whisky 🥃

DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) 😉

Will do! Only a quick hop and a jump 4,000 miles across the pond!

You’ll have to put me onto a new appreciation of brown liquor, never learned to enjoy it

I’m thinking I’ll need help getting out of bed tomorrow. Maybe remain a vegetable for a bit.

Probably best that you don’t get started on the whisky train then. Don’t want to be the reason for the demise of your precious liver. Beer? 😊

Luckily for you, you have a four legged friend who will make sure you get up!

I actually stopped drinking maybe 5 or 6 years ago. When the occasion calls? Of course. But generally I’m a “pakalolo” guy.

We both know my heart will be my demise before my liver ;))))

Oh right. The heart exploding thing. Try not to do that before I teach you how to drive manual ;) and drink whisky like a proper gent, ya?

Pakalolo J.. there, your new nickname. 😁

Why do you think they call it a J ;)

You better be careful what you go offering! A flight to StM isn’t that hard to book!

Oh if you make it here, you best be well prepared. I hope you like heights because in my town.. with me.. seatbelts and harnesses are optional. 🚁 ⛷️

I hope you like powder because you will be eating mine when I absolutely DUST your ass in those sweet sweet alps

I’m always prepared. I sweat in training so I don’t bleed in war 🫡💪

Embrace the suck baby.

Have you ever been in a helo? Because if you have, you've never been in one until you're in one with me.

So exciting 😊👏

Helo!? Ive only flown on a plane maybe like 6 times in my life! Still yet to leave the US🙁

The day you get me in a helo that you’re driving, is the day I will truly become a god fearing man. Because at that point I will know I’m in his hands😅

Time to get you out of your nest.

😄 That’s not far from the truth at all tbh. Find comfort that everyone I’ve taken to the sky has lived to tell. Even the ones that jumped out of a perfectly working helo to ski their way down to earth instead. It’ll be fine 😉

Consider yourself lucky Anon.

There was a point in my life where I could leave the bar at 3am and run the Philly Marathon at 7am, catch a flight to Italy at 1pm and be recovered by 7am the next morning and ready for some walking. Enjoy it while you can. I'm paying dues right now. My pops calls it age tax.

Always. Otherwise you become a sheeple.

*Re: Discipline

Why couldn't you say something easy...

Ha! I never did anything easy.

There's a "your mom" joke here, but I'm trying to turn over a new leaf.

FINISH HER, BANJO

Bring it, boys.

I'm gonna prove that I have discipline by NOT saying "ur moms easy"

Ha! So you’re trying to tell me you’re no longer 12. Good call.

A holistic approach. A healthy lifestyle takes persistence and thinking outside the box

NAC. N-acetylcystene - Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-anxiety properties. I take it everyday, and I feel the difference when I do an off-cycle. It chelates heavy metals so it's a good idea to supplement copper/zinc at the same time (just fyi).

I have a number of different supplements in my stack, but NAC is an all-star.

Ok, THIS is the type of response I was looking for. I know a lot of people who take NAD+. Are you a fellow chemist? You sound like it. Will 100% look into this. Thank you

Any others you take? At the moment I’m taking biotin, hyaluronic acid, collagen peptides, vitamin d, omega-3, glucosamine + chondroitin, among a few others

I am no chemist, no background in it at all but I try to thoroughly vet anything I put into my body.

I supplement for some pretty specific reasons, I have issues with anxiety and mood swings, brain fog, and low energy levels.

Beyond NAC I also supplement inositol, Maca root, D3, zinc/copper, magnesium, L-theanine, and glycine.

I also take DHEA off and on in small 2-3 day stretches each month because I'm over 40, but I'm wary of messing with hormones so I try to keep it minimal.

I'm going to be introducing piracetam soon to combat brain fog, and will report back when I have results.

Ahhhh DHEA is starting to be implemented with combat vets. I used to take Levo theanine post coffee for a bit to see if it reduced the jitters. Magnesium and zinc can be huge for those deficient as well. Honestly I think all of that stuff is fascinating, sometimes the right supplement can yield massive reward.

Out of curiosity, do you exercise a lot?

Not as much as I should be, admittedly. I spend 60 minutes or so a week weightlifting. 2 days on, 1 rest day, repeat.

You know what? That’s probably 60 minutes more than 80% of people. I only ask because brain fog etc are also symptoms of various over training syndromes. Keep me in the loop. I’m really interested/passionate in general health/wellness/strength and conditioning, so any input I can get from folks is good data as far as I’m concerned.

For sure, I'll try and remember to tag you on the notes I post about supplementation and my journey through that rabbit hole.

The brain fog came back with a vengeance when I stopped taking the mood stabilizer I was on for 15 years. It is likely a symptom of the bipolarity that was just suppressed.

I’m sorry you have to battle with that, Entropy (love that username tho). I too have struggled with my own mind. I took SSRI’s very briefly for a period of time. I am not a physician and certainly not your physician. But there is a way. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but it sounds you’re real proactive. Most people will take a pharmaceutic (whether necessary or not) and never try to help themselves. I promise you I know this from first hand experience, that you must be your #1 advocate. Don’t ever stop learning or fighting for your case. Keep me posted. I hope you find your light, homie.

Appreciate it 💜

It's not as big a deal as you might think. You live with something long enough and it becomes a part of your background experience.

Problems don't solve themselves, and I am all about leaning in to find an adequate set of tradeoffs.

Modern pharmacology has its place, but I believe that in the vast majority of cases people can manage their health needs by making smaller changes.

I don’t know why i brought up NAD😅. Think I read this too quick

It's been different things at different stages of my evolution. One thing I noticed was missing a few months ago, was music.

I've been listening to music (anything, random stuff) at least 30 minutes a day. But judging by your recent notes, I'd guess you got that covered already. But keep this note in mind. At some point in your life you might start taking conference calls or listening to books instead of some music. Keep the music in your life's soundtrack.
