XP is fine

Nobody uses Windows, anymore.

So, what you're saying is that the biggest market is Linux? 🤔

I doubt it...

Umm... that's literally what the chart says.

By random chance, do you have the link? Or where can I find that chart?

Thanks!

Then everyone must decide for themselves how they want to interpret this chart. You and me interpret it differently.

use ubuntu.

Then how will I see where I'm going while I drive?

#Debian for ever ..

What about gaming tho

You can play on Linux 😏

There's always gotta be one of these guys.

Life is a better game

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Steam on Linux benchmarks 5% higher on average than Windows for gaming

Yeah I will install SteamOS on my gaming PC

💯

As a programmer you don't need windows anyway ;-]><

I always say "Use proper tools for proper job." In many cases Windows does not make sense, but in many it does. Let the user be comfortable and effective.

Yeah, I stopped doing that because some OSs are just out there to eat you alive.

As a user or as a support provider? Those two roles are often not aligned. And yes, providing support for BFU-level Windows users is always a pain.

I wouldn't worry about it. The underlying premise of Linux is objectively better and it is just a matter of time. It might be a lot of time, but eventually the better thing will win.

Windows?

never heard of her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The real question is: Has it heard of you?

I don't hope so 😉

So what to use then? Curtains only?

Either Linux or MacOS.

Sorry was a joke. For my desktop I defnitly use Linux. But at work, we only have Microsoft for everything 😪

Don't use MacOS. Never!

Linux/Mac OS FTW.

I only use it for steam streaming. Linux, probably due to wayland, doesn't stream games well.

Can't wait for steamOS to be the standard for gaming so I don't need to dual boot anymore... Hurry up Gabe!

It's anticheats that are holding it back. I don't think that's likely to happen any time soon.

Except to compile software for people who don't take your advice.

When Adobe Suite for Linux? 😭

Never. F*ck Adobe

Damn, you beat me to it!

Yes, f*ck Adobe. But there's sadly no good alternative to InDesign yet...

Pretty much the only thing that keeps me using Windows over Linux as a daily driver.

Them put it on a VM on a Linux machine and never use it for anything else. Definitely never log in with any account over there.

Recommendations for a solid VM? Only one I have tried in the past is VMware.

Gnome Boxes was great for me some time ago.

You can also try KVM/Qemu VM

There is always VirtualBox is everything else fails :)

Gnome Boxes is just another front end to KVM. The minimalist front end to KVM is virsh (CLI).

VirtualBox works on hardware where the ISA does not support virtual machines (or where said, *cough* Intel, instructions are buggy and insecure). Instead of full emulation, it patches the ram of supported OSes to make system calls.

Xen also works on hardware with no ISA support for VMs. (It also supports ISA VM support.) There is a xen micro-kernel that does nothing but run VMs. Even IO is done by a privileged VM. The kernel in the VMs must have Xen device drivers - which today are merged with virtio device drivers (so the same drivers work for both Xen and KVM).

KVM/virt-manager works well

Same. Got Linux on another machine, it's way more fun.

What distro?

YES!

Using Windows 10 with O&O ShutUp10 on one of my computers. All software I use is open-source and the same as on my Linux computer. It's acceptable.

Only those at home and in my car.

What alternatives are available for ordinary people? Genuine question

MacOS works for me. It’s Unix underneath.

Just use any linux distro with an okay x86 laptop (if it's a thinkpad you're very based) and your life will never be the same.

ok, i'll just fill them with tiles

Tell that to the FIAT mine I work at. Everything is locked starting from bios to vpn so GL trying to log in to any company resources with some other machine.

But Satoshi...

Even to throw micro and soft whillie geis from one?

I tend to say that the least productive people use Linux, mildly productive use Mac and productive people use Windows. There are just very few hassles with Windows anymore, the others I spend time daily just fighting the OS while I want to do something productive.

I agree! The problem is when people start to feel "superior" to others just because they use a different operating system.

This is very common. And also much worse than using Windows.

But Microsoft Flight Simulator won't run anywhere else except xbox which is annoying to fly on!

I booted up a device with windows preinstalled. Part of the activation was asking me to give answers to 3 "security questions" with no way around it.

So my advice is: Don't **boot** windows ever!

Why, what am I missing?

Lots of back doors.
