well, this is stupid. must have been a decent sized payment too because i have a good amount of channel liquidity. honestly this is a great reminder that the average person will never use lightning in a non-custodial way. no one wants to dick around with balancing channels all the time. people just want to send and receive bitcoin fast and cheap.

Nasty. Lol.

True 💯

It's your fault for not always knowing exactly what other people are going to send you and have sent you. You should spend more of your time fiddling with Lightning settings. This is your fault, bro. Stop spending so much time on other things and spend it on Lightning instead 🤷‍♂️

😭😭😭😭

Alby locked my funds, and I can't get it out. Something like 39k sats. Complete trash service.

Never using Alby/custodial systems again, nothing but garbage in my experience.

I assume this is email? How does Alby know what you are being sent to be able to notify you like this?

Yea looks like someone went phishing

Nah it’s legit. It’s part of the Alby Hub service.

Alby offers a service for people without their own server by renting channel space from them. Thus, they have oversight. It’s somewhat similar to Phoenix, where you also pay to open a channel.

I use Alby with my own node, and there Alby works perfectly.

Thanks for confirming that. We got a similar message earlier this month and I just deleted it right away because i assumed it was a phishing attempt without checking the url. We use Alby never had issues before or got any kind of message like that b4.

They monitor it I guess through Alby Hub (a service which I pay for). Honestly might just shut it down because it’s really just a pain in the ass.

The lightning address service is operated by us. Someone sends us a request and we need to fetch the right BOLT11 invoice from your Hub to pass it on to the payer.

People still ignore the ease of running a Monero node?

Yeah and you don't even need to run your own Monero node to get better than the best lightning privacy. Just download a Monero wallet like Cake Wallet and you have Bitcoin on-chain ease of use and security while having lightning level fees regardless of transaction size. Actually easier since you don't need to worry about UTXO management.

I think this is when someone requests a very large invoice from your lightning address with probably no intention to actually pay it. I can see how it can be misleading.

Some of this Bitcoin applications are just rubbish 😕

I put alby Nsec extension on Firefox and it never worked for some reason. Uninstalled and now I can’t login to Primal using that browser anymore 😔

Sounds like some cache problem. Did you clear everything related to Alby and Primal?

Ha, just cleared my cash and got back into Primal on Firefox! Thank you!! I’ll try Alby again I’m sure, if not there are other Nsec apps to use.

I actually really like Amber. It looks like the web version is compatible now (Remote Signer). I'm on Graphene though. Don't know if it's available on iOS.

Just tested it and it works. It'll look like it did nothing for about 30 seconds though. Just wait and it should reload the page with a logged in interface. Enjoy.

I don’t think anyone who owns their own node will let all the channels be full. And yes I’m agreeing that having your own node is for nerds. Not everyone. I’m luckily on of the 17.000 nerds out there having my own node. 🤓

For everyone else walletofsatoshi or Aqua work just fine 😊

Seems like it would be a good idea for them to add an auto rebalance feature to keep a desired amount of inbound liquidity on each channel. Idk.

I've run 5 lightning nodes in the past, and currently just use nostr:nprofile1qqsf07zg4hxyccnkdp07fppxmetpfzru3fg6mgzx3nk8r7af8qnjjygpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcpzamhxue69uhky6t5vdhkjmn9wgh8xmmrd9skctcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp066595x and am happy with it.

I use LN for small payments, I don't particularly care if someone else fascilitates the transactions for me.

What's your favorite lightning wallet?

Zeus

Early adaptation flashing signal. A few years from now we’ll laugh about the old days when using lightning meant actively managing channel liquidity.

This has been the case since Lightning went “mainstream” around 2017-2018.. 7+ years down the line and it’s still a thing!

Let’s revisit this in10 years.

Sooner, I hope!

With peace and love this is a great advertisement for Phoenix or Ark or Liquid swaps.

Phoenix and Ark have very poor privacy. Liquid is a altcoin chain that just happens to be pegged to bitcoin. It's like recommending WBTC on ethereum.

Please name an alternative that works as well or better. Open to options but all I’ve tried have strictly worse UX and performance. Ultimately a more private option that doesn’t work will never get adoption. It has to work.

Why not follow the Pro-Tip at the bottom of the notice? Enable Auto-Swaps and never miss a payment again?

Just closed my Alby hub. Only a waste of sats.

That's why the ⚡ Lightning Goats ⚡ run core lightning with clboss, sling, and our own fee setting, rebalancing plugin to coordinate it all. It works, and our node is even becoming profitable over time.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use the fountain wallet and above a certain amount take off the table into self custody?

This email is triggered when someone requests a BOLT11 invoice from your Hub that exceeds your total receiving capacity. However, only the payer knows whether the payment intent is genuine.

Do you typically receive payments with an amount higher than your current receiving capacity?

Alby Hub? FTD (Far Too Difficult)

you are right, running a lightning node is very difficult!

its nothing for the average bitcoin guy,

but instead you can use lightning wallets

which provide you with just one channel

could be automated to adjust the cap. of the channel

like phoenix is doing it.

but still its a little harder tool then a blink or WoS

Whenever you're ready for permissionless, private, practical and simple payments, #Monero is ready for you.

nostr:nevent1qqs8tfwzmeay59htrljnvjrpaheqmjzpq69vmf3un4dv6tt6xwh8lqqppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qgsvfr3f7p95stxqrjslnmuvsmhcxxxqt8swjdfjx5tz7zq0yms5cygrqsqqqqqpn3t9pd

Just do a normal transaction in monero.

Yeah it's pretty tragic, private non custodial lightning is DOA. Only viable options are LSP based wallets like Phoenix with JIT 0conf channels which open new channels when you recieve large payments. Costs a lot in fees though and you have minimal privacy from ACINQ.

Its that or your risk loss of funds, censorship, freezing etc. with custodial solutions. All have horrible privacy other than ecash too.

Get a bigger channel, 99.99% of people will be fine with default 1M that is what AH prompts people for. You could have as easily gotten 10-20M and swap out to on chain if you get this much sent to you.
