That’s how it works. No account just display name, messages sent over Bluetooth so really a max effective range of 300ish metres. Messages can hop peer-to-peer.
Verify other users via checking their fingerprint (string of characters) matches up with yours and when you get out of Bluetooth range bitchat uses NOSTR to message.
I sent it to my friend and she said "why are you calling me a bitch?" Bitchat, aka Bitch-at 😆
