I think we have to be willing to integrate more news onto Nostr. Bitcoin stuff is great, but not everybody is a BTC maxi. Some may find more benefit from a news feed that they can share and engage with. Integrating Ground News or something like that. When people realize they can vote with zaps, it’s a game changer.

Is this for all Nostr clients, or just primal? It seems the client(s) is doing worse as the months drag on, woth more sign ups and better retention in May and June.
"Engagement" is actual interaction. Talking to people. Boosting people. Zapping people. And only real people doing it. Emoji reacts, boost bots, following people you don't care about, that isn't engagement. That's phony baloney bullshit that belongs on twitter.

Education... Explain to your friends and family the problem of companies mining your data, the importance of decentralization and uncensored platforms.
Not an simple suggestion, but fundamental; if they understand the problem, they will look for solutions and find NOSTR.
The same goes for the problems with fiat and bitcoin as a solution. ⚡

I try to comment on notes. I think engagement is what's missing from legacy socials, it's a real draw for me here. I have so much fun going back and forth with people. Putting the social back in social media 🫂💜.

What is the algorithm in people? An algorithm can be understood as a sequence of well-defined finite steps that solve a problem. For example, the execution of everyday tasks as simple as brushing your teeth, washing your hands or following the instructions manual for assembling a piece of furniture can be seen as an algorithm.
Interactions that effectively create engagement is a heuristic algorithm.
Bad or off putting behavior would be a negative one.

Here’s my thinking on that.
My focus is to grow Nostr adoption.
Lack of engagement is the #1 reason people stop logging back in and posting/replying.
I still need to be able to use the nostr feed to find content I enjoy interacting with but I dont want NSFW, annoying reposters, languages I don’t understand etc showing up in my feed.
In Primal, those users are absent from my feed but I still see their replies. I also still see their trending posts so I can still engage with them from time to time.

I don't follow anyone here without Digit being here, I just use the "my tribe" feed in Primal to see posts from people that follow me

another way to #grownostr and (to @jb55 's point) add to the infrastructure, might be to have a badge for users who host and provide nodes to Nostr. Not everyone can do that, or know how, but for those that can and choose to do it (for all of us), it might be cool to recognize them in a verifiable way.

I find hashtags the most useful way to find folks of similar interests (#artstr #photography etc), and as a way of showing the variety of notes and folks here.
As a way of show the huge community aspect of Nostr (as I’ve gotten so much help from it myself) - the #asknostr hashtag …. Which doesn’t really exist on other social media platforms; they have their company customer support, but not a way to ask across the board for help from the actual folks using the platform.
For a nontechnical newbie such as myself it is kind of hard to find topics of conversation that interest me. My interest in nostr is the decentralized free speech aspect I support Presearch for the same reason but the nuts and bolts of how it works are above my pay grade. I like the idea of zapping quality content really like that great concept.
I think it needs to be more compartmentalized right now it is more of an unorganized free for all. I would like to see politics posted mostly in one place not hash tagged all over the place, sports, travel etc that way people can hang out in their happy space. And nostrhelp should be for nostr help jus sayin.
Nostr is not user friendly for a dumb ass if you want to go mainstream you gotta deal with the dumb asses.

I called myself zapping you but I can't tell if you got it. It seems to me the easiest way to zap on my pc is to zap and read the bar code with Strike on my phone. Does it take awhile to show up on your end? I thought is was lightening fast. : )
