Nuance and critical thinking are difficult concepts.
I think many are incorrectly labeled as Putin simps when what they are actually doing is just trying to push back on the narrative that the West and left are a shining pillar of integrity and honesty. They may not necessarily think he's a good person, and don't go as far as saying that, however they might agree with some of the things he says and support that as a form of supporting free speech, when the rest of the world is trying to cancel him and anyone that appears to support him.

Putin is ruthless and I have no doubt he would kill me and my family if that was what he needed to do to advance his political aims. Yet, he does not command the regime that will try to confiscate my bitcoin, or that steals more than half of my income, or that seeks to indoctrinate my children, or who would enable their chemical castration, or take them away from me if I stood in their way.
So, I will not join today's 5 minutes of hate, thank you very much. If that means I will be called a Putin simp, then so be it. I've been called worse (Saddam apologist, anti vaxxer, etc.) for not going along with other psyops.
