Nostr seems to be where all the kids who grew up in the 80s and 90s, and all the kids who wish they could have grown up in the 80s and 90s, hang out. I love it. 😂💜

Great decades, The best of times 🔥
I've noticed that. There does seem to be an awful lot of people here who are "Our age", I wonder why that is🤔.
I think people that grew up to see the early days of the internet remember how much fun it was and find something similar in the new-ness and free-ness and novelty of nostr. Plus we had the patience to wait for dial up and deal with hacking things together so we don’t mind shuffling through the mess here. That’s my theory at least 😂
Exactly, it didn't all work perfectly, it wasn't all instant, but all the people were real. And it felt like there was a real link between what happened online and what happened in the real world. You could actually meet a girl online *gasp*. And that's exactly what Nostr feels like, a link to the real world through the internet. Which is ironic because the accounts on here are just cryptographic keys, whereas fiat social media (sorry I know it's cringe to call everything fiat, but it really is fiat social media) feels so disconnected from the real world, even when people have their real identities on there!
💯
I would tend to agree with that theory
Concur
💯 as a child of the 80's and 90's I concur.
🙌🔥
that's basically generation X btw
Yea, X and older millennials. Seems to be a heavy concentration of that age group among nostr users. At least those who have doxxed their age 😂
well, i think Prodigy summed it up in their album title:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_for_the_Jilted_Generation
and they aped the Pepsi marketing font on this title too which is quite funny
we were the children of the hippies, is why, and that whole thing was a psyop

YES bro

It is well spoken
You said it .. explains my obsession
It’s because so many folks here remember the internet as being a cool new thing with so much potential, not just a place where Fb and Yt lives … and where the corporate world bombards you with a neverending stream of ads.

Once again living in the 90s 💜
Damn Straight 🕺
Where is Digit then?
🫡💜
I know great protocol we feel born again!
I hail from the 70s, but I’ve always been a late bloomer so I feel right at home.
Stop writting and lets go hang out to the arcades
Check!
This is the new drug Huey Lewis sang about.
This is a vibe
80s. BABY. 🤙🏽

My people!
Yes-💯-& I love it too!😂
Yeeeeeep mmmm 😋
This is kinda how it felt. If you were on IRC back in the day, it meant you were a high openness or early adopter technical person. It wasn’t just a bunch of mops everywhere clicking clickbait and doomscrolling. It was edgy and it wasn’t just a couple mega corps running servers, it was hundreds of tiny tribes.
💯🤝
I miss the IRC days!
I used to get so much joy out of getting people’s ip addresses, running neotrace, and freaking them out when I told them where they lived. Afk channels. Ping floods. Getting warez and movies with DCC. Good times!

Let me find my parachute pants and Air Force 1s…..
I’m new here, got any recommendations of who to follow? I’m from the UK btw 😁🇬🇧
Can't believe this fits so perfectly!
79 here and proud
Great call. If you think about it, stripping out all the big-tech algo stuff moves the experience “backwards” in time to when anonymity wasn’t a scary word, it was just normal. “Influencers” as a term didn’t exist.
And no offense to whoever made the button, I don’t “follow” any of you. I just allow your content to be visible for as long as I value it.
Accurate.
We are so lucky. We have experienced the evolution of computers and now we are being part of Bitcoin changing the monetary system. Amazing 😎

Totally!! I grew up in the 90s and 2000s, and yet I feel like I grew up in the 80s. I think nostr is disproportionately curious people too, people who spot opportunities that others miss.
