I raged at ZBD recently because of the crazy KYC for verification, (upload passport etc to access moar sats)... and what seemed to be a spate of lightning channel force closures, maybe something to do with selling soul to regulators.
They were larp from the beginning but they 'embraced' nostr and we thought they were cool.
Neva mind.
I love the magic internet money and the magic internet money loves me. πβ‘π§‘
Thanks brother. I will reflect on your words. Seasons in which we focus on one attribute of God or one aspect of his calling on our lives, rather than trying to do it all every day, that resonates. You rightly guessed I'm floating in the protestant tide. While rejecting catholicism I am often intrigued by orthodoxy.
Seems nowhere is safe for those foolhardy Evergrande shareholders.

That's what I keep telling my wife.
If we sell it now, the price will just shoot up and we'll be buying back our stash at a premium.

This is part of the central point.
It's happening everywhere else and we believed that the nostr protocol offered a tiny window to escape and build something new. If we go down this road, it winds back to the same place we started from, leading us all back there with it.
If I had designs on suffocating this new found freedom, and the talent to implement them, this is a good place to start.
Not really.
Many devs work for little or no reward on things they believe in, and here they might get a few sats from goodwill support or splits, hence 'working for beans'.
In his case, the incentives don't seem as clear, since he spend a couple of years doing big projects with WHO on COVID Passes and 'that kind' of Digital Identity. He's not a humble dev, he's already successful in business terms but the pedigree isn't cypherpunk. What is this sudden enthusiasm for pushing an idea, that can end up being the backdoor to gagging the social experience on Nostr, (something that would surely be a desirable outcome for the kind of networks that overlap with WHO/UN/G20), and pushing it so quickly from concept to implementation that it forces the hand of other developers to follow suit, while crying "hey, YOLO, embrace the chaos and see where this goes". Vitor himself cheekily announced that he was "opening the gates of hell", which is obviously just a turn of phrase, but doesn't conjure up a feeling of responsibilty and care for long term freedom and resillience.
So that's why I couldn't share the enthusiasm in your poetic note, even though I can respect the talent and desire to inspire others during this period of tension.
"..aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you" - 1 Thessalonians 4:11
He shows of how many evils idleness is the cause, and of how many benefits industry. And this he makes manifest from things which happen among us, as he often does, and that wisely. For by these things the majority are led on more than by spiritual things. For it is a mark of love to our neighbors not to receive from them, but to impart to them. And observe. Being about to exhort and admonish, he places in the middle their good conduct, both that they may recover even from the preceding admonition, and from the threat, when he said, He therefore that rejects, rejects not man, but God, and that they may not be restive at this. And this is the effect of working, that one does not receive of others, nor live idly, but by working imparts to others. For it is said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35 And to work, he says, with your hands. Where are those, who look out for work that is spiritual? Do you see how he takes from them every excuse, saying, with your hands? But does one practice fasting with his hands? Or watchings all night? Or lyings on the ground? This no one can say. But he is speaking of spiritual work. For it is truly spiritual, that one should by working impart to others, and there is nothing equal to this. That ye may walk, he says, becomingly. Do you see whence he touches them? He has not said, that you may not be shamed by begging. But he has indeed insinuated the same, yet he puts it in a milder way, so as both to strike and not to do this severely. For if those who are among us are offended at these things, much more those who are without, finding numberless accusations and handles, when they see a man who is in good health and able to support himself, begging and asking help of others. Wherefore also they call us Christ-mongers. On this account, he means, the name of God is blasphemed. Romans 2:24 But none of these things has he stated; but that which was able to touch them most nearly, the disgracefulness of the thing.
- John Chrysostom

This is really interesting.
I often find myself drawn to this scripture when thinking about deeper values and goals. I want to obey Christ and to advance His Kingdom and I do that in the capacity of the spheres where I am directly responsible - like most people, self/marriage/family/work/community.
Modern churches are far too industrious but for their own brand, in a fiat way nicely highlighted in Thank God For Bitcoin.
So I end up coming back to this 'lead a quiet life'. What does it mean when contrasted with the command to 'take up the cross and follow', in that Jesus didn't seem to be calling the disciples to a quiet life in the way we envisage it, and yet Paul's description here lands somewhere between Walden and Walnut Grove. And yes, it stirs a longing, even in this already quite idyllic part of British suburbia adjacent to a thriving countryside, where I sit connected to the industrious world through a virtual interface.
I'm listening to a lot of Cal Newport's work at the moment but he only really hints at the spiritual side.
There's something here, and I'm scratching at it, but can't quite put it together.
Incredible and sustained contribution to the practice of self-custody, in line with true cypherpunk values.
Zapped his profile since the notes don't accept.
Consider doing the same.

Stuck in a left brain prison, since they abdicated the right brain function to the state/media/tech complex.
The reason it takes effort for us to live in a reasonably sovereign and awake mode is that we're wrestling back our right brain from their clutches daily. And that's before we factor in the disadvantage of fiat brain rot, being treated daily with bitcoin praxis to restore and heal it.
There's an article locked up in that note but I don't have time to write it.

I'd share the sentiment if Vitor was just a humble dev working for beans from his mom's basement, and the incentives weren't so misaligned.

Edits are the backdoor to gagging the social experience on Nostr.
On a long enough trajectory, it's the difference between CDBC and Bitcoin. Not yet, but if the seeds sprout roots that take hold, then your future here will be quite different.
Be wise and wary of those who advocate for it and move under the cover of early stage chaos to implement it. Be grateful for those with sufficient insight and awareness to warn about what's happening, and to articulate it.

This feels like a critical point for the social aspect of Nostr.
Not quite the 'blocksize wars' but there's definitely something going on, and it's more than just innovative developers getting criticized by laggards. Edits are to this 'new free speech experience' what backdoors are to encryption.
It's really that serious.
So I continue to wonder if there's some deliberate mischief-making and chaos-sowing, to how resilient this thing is already, and whether it's likely to become a threat to the self-styled overlords. For example, incentives are not aligned, if Vitor breaks the Nostr social experience from the inside, he gains favor from his current and previous clients, and can 'frame' the experience in a professional/respectable way on his CV, with no personal accountability.
Slay your heros and think clearly. nostr:npub1sqaxzwvh5fhgw9q3d7v658ucapvfeds3dcd2587fcwyesn7dnwuqt2r45v warned us about this a year ago, wish I could find the old notes, I've been uneasy every since. nostr:npub1lxktpvp5cnq3wl5ctu2x88e30mc0ahh8v47qvzc5dmneqqjrzlkqpm5xlc is another npub who helps clear the cobwebs from my mind every so often.
