Where as regular punks shout and play guitar badly.

Started the process of setting up a live music collective in my area. There’s a cool space and I can handle all the tech details.

One major strength I have is the creative people I count as friends. Once I cover the basics I can get folks down here thinking about V4V.

No way I’m touching Daniel Ek’s willy for £0.000000001

Maybe we can bring in a sat or two.

I’ve got some work that’s near completion which I’m sending off to publishers etc. but those things are a bit of a lottery, if you get a good film/tv sync it’s great but everyone is after that as there’s still some money in that world.

The YouTube thing is dead I think, soooo many channels explaining how to make music. When I see musicians doing that, it’s often a sign their own music isn’t making any money.

The fact we’re on this platform early is good, there could be opportunity in something new…. I don’t know what that is yet but I’m keen to find it!

And thank you for the strength! Thinks could be worse, I’ve got a stable living situation and I’m feeling positive about making stuff, it’s the business end I really struggle with.

I get that, it's hard. I have a bunch of thoughts on a bunch of stuff but I'm also prone to bouts of severe depression etc. so I've tried to edit as much of that out as I can as first and foremost, I need to be able to function at the most basic level.

That said, I'm up for some real talk! (No R Kelly).

Yeah WW2 must've been terrifying, especially with WW1 still clear in living memory. There's no one alive now who knows first hand what that was like and now we have people liking to flex about how tough they are without any comprehension of consequence. Maybe it's a cop out but when I surround myself with noises in my shed, things are ok.

When I do a basic analysis of my life I come back to the same problem every time. Money.

Horace Andy once sang Money Is The Route Of All Evil and there's a lot of truth in that but food costs money, shelter costs money. Money costs money.

I've been an independent music maker all my life. I'm a bit odd, I don't fit n places often but when I do, I commit. Like anyone I have strengths and weaknesses and I know myself.

My current income is super low, like seriously and it's currently unsustainable so something has to change.

For context, my partner was working in a drug and alcohol recovery service and a typical amount a heroin addict gets a month in support is equal to what I earn in a month.

I'm not saying this to throw shade on these people, if you knew the life stories behind them, you would be truly horrified. My wish is that they can recover and rebuild their lives without judgemental bullshit holding them back.

The point is, I need to up the anti, whilst maintaining my independence. I'm going to try some things out, see what sticks. V4V is very interesting. If we were pure Austrian about it, you'd say I bought very little economic benefit to the world. So what, should I kill myself? I tried that once, overall the experience scores low on the fun-o-meter so I do not recommend.

I'm making new music, I'm experimentation with this radio thing, whilst keeping my engineering job and little community gig going, I love working at a credible indie label, even if the money is shit, the vibe is right for me.

Anyway, bit of a waffle but just to say I'm working on it, in my own way, the best that I can. I'm trying new things. V4v seems like a workable model. I donm't want to be a performing monkey for some corp and I want to reduce the amount of spying on me, be it government or corporation!

I know there has to be a way through somehow.

Fully up for chats with like minded people, especially people trying to earn a coin in this new world order.

As I said last week, I'm starting my own weekly radio show playing all the weird and wonderful music I've collected over the years.

At the moment this is hosted on my PeerTube instance. I still can't get my head round streaming for sats. Looked at WavLake and Fountain but there doesn't appear to be info for hosting a straight up music show, unless it's content already on the platform. There's Nu-Mu but I'm scared by the code... I use YunoHost for self hosting which is super simple.

I didn't want that to hold me back though!

Self hosting radio with sats will happen. Just a lot to get my head round.

Episode 1 features a bass, breaks and bleeps DJ set I did way back in 1991. Every week will be different so if this isn't your bag, maybe next week will be. The emphasis will be on more underground or unusual stuff though, from Electro to Jazz, from Reggae to Middle Eastern, to whatever I feel like doing. There's a LOT of music to share!

Ps. If anyone has info on how I could stream for sats via my own web domain, that would be amazing!

When I see that sort of stuff I always think of a 17 year old kid in their bedroom being edgy on the internet for kicks, they're clearly trying to illicit a response and if you don't give one, they tend to disappear (although I assume it's still replying as when I try a new client, it's back again). I can see a lot of people thinking that's a hard no from them though.

Now I know what you mean by a hell thread it makes more sense. I envisioned it more like a pile on, which even done in good faith, could be a bit overwhelming.

Maybe a bot that responded to introductions with a simple guide to Nostr? That would be pretty cool IMO, although way over my skill level!

Hashtags are cool.

A little while back there was an old bazillion aircraft carrier going for $19 mil. Way out of my budget but I thought could be a fun home…

6 billy is a lot…. What are they going to do with it?

A hellthread for newbies should happen. Great idea from nostr:npub1n0pdxnwa4q7eg2slm5m2wjrln2hvwsxmyn48juedjr3c85va99yqc5pfp6 🔥🤙

Maybe one thread gets auto-created per day, for new accounts? A bot could perhaps moderate (ie create and add accounts)? Or a client could look for a specific hashtag or highlight/group users some other way?

I’d love to see a client that incorporates this into the onboarding flow.

Something simple like a hashtag-based recommendation. “Join a thread with other users who signed up this week” and show the most recent conversations with the #NewbieThread hashtag or something like this.

Seasoned nostriches could also follow the hashtag if their client supports it (most clients seem to allow following hashtags now, right?), and we can chime in to offer technical support or guidance to the hatchlings.

Thoughts? Problems with this?

Wish I’d heard of this before our panel on Thursday, nostr:npub1aeh2zw4elewy5682lxc6xnlqzjnxksq303gwu2npfaxd49vmde6qcq4nwx nostr:npub1hqaz3dlyuhfqhktqchawke39l92jj9nt30dsgh2zvd9z7dv3j3gqpkt56s nostr:npub18ams6ewn5aj2n3wt2qawzglx9mr4nzksxhvrdc4gzrecw7n5tvjqctp424

The concept of a hell thread is new to me. I didn’t come from X so not familiar with the term. On the Fediverse I follow the introductions tab and say hi to new people, just as a courtesy, I think it’s a nice thing to do.

If it’s more creating a massive thread for them, maybe not so good? Especially if bots are involved? My first experience on Nostr was a bit spouting racist bullshit on every post I made. Not the best welcome…

Helping them with links to guides and stuff is great. An tell them how to mute things asap!

Sounds like the ‘trending’ tab is not for me.

I like my socials like I like my carrots, organic.

Hard relate. Better still, I want Sam Altman to do my laundry and dishes.

Damn, took me ages to put that fence up! Good morning to you.

Just a normal guy who isn’t Phil Collins, doing normal stuff Phil Collins wouldn’t do.
