Well... i would say start with 1/2 sats and once you have it working create tables on the fly to whatever range.
Not sure the idea is viable...
Only useful if it csn be done in a decentralized way.
Lots to figure out...
Texas Holdem on a Nostr relay...
How to do reliable non custodial chips? hmm.
Then perhaps you recognise my 'name'. Our time is similar. I helped with monero since 2014. And i will call it a shitcoin but with my tongue somwhat in my cheek. My views on it are nuanced i believe. I have held some for more than 10 years. I do not think it can replace bitcoin. And bitcoin has no chance at all to catch up with its privacy any time soon.
In the early days monero folks were bitcoinners first. But ones who saw the need for what XMR (MRO if you remember) achieved. As time went on the monero community took on the look of the big blockers. Vitriol. Jeslousy. Spite. And ideslism of course. Some good ideals. Unfortunately the spitefulness seems to be a significant thread in the community still.
And yes the black and white gatekeping maxis are annoying too.
Plenty of usenet style religious flamewars still being fought.
Anyway i kneejerk a little sometimes... sorry bout that.
I agree the new product is better. And I have been for self custody forever. And I agree that they gave users plenty of time. But they just sucked up all the sats that were left behind. And I do not like that move. Anyone confused, or who did not understand etc... they just lost their money. In my opinion your argument is they deserved to, and honestly I think you are right in a technical sense. But Alby has their money and will now just keep it because they can.
It will leave a bad taste in new user's mouths.
We see it differently. I see it as a lot of potentially ignorant, busy, or perhaps forgetful people who might leave personal property on a bus with a sign. And then calling the bus company (city?) to hear that any property left on the bus will become the property of the city. But we issued you a voucher.
Technically all neat and tidy as long as the sign spelled it out. But a very bad experience for those who lost something, even if it is their fault.
But no big deal... we can disagree.
To add clarity, i imagine the server issues were likely caused by people waking up to not being able to access balances they did not reslize were no longer theirs even though they were warned.
It was all clear if you were paying attention.
I still hate it.
Yeah they had to rug us to become "non-custodial".
That said, they warned us. This will be thier defence.
I personally find this decision dispicable and will not do business with them or reccomend.
NYKNYC.
I don't know any Bitcoin or Monero OGs. Do you?
But I also disagree with your statement. Monero has come nowhere close to reaching the transaction throughput needed to prove it could do any better than bitcoin as a layer 1 network "at scale".
In fact simple math will show monero's block(chain) size would grow more quickly than an unbounded BTC and would therefore centralize more quickly as well.
That problem has never been solved on layer 1 by any chain.
Niether btc nor xmr have done huge amounts of MOE yet. But layer 2 tech on bitcoin is poised to be ready as it begins to.
It really is quite easy.
Good afternoon!
Quite the chess game going on out there.
Not enough popcorn in the world.
If you self custody... and you understand why #UTXO management is important, you will want to look at the current #fee requirements for transactions. At this moment you can get your transaction in the NEXT BLOCK for between 1-2 sat/byte.
This is almost as low as it can possibly get.
And if we are indeed on the eve of nations buying bitcoin for their #reserves then we will not likely be seeing 1-2 sat/byte fees for very long. And even if that was not the case other degens will want to buy #blockspace for whatever silly thing they are "minting". Though I honestly think we will not see that nonsense for a while.
Either way #blockspace is ON SALE...
We are in a VERY fortunate environment for doing these sort of utility transactions currently.
Why do you want low fees to do transactions on the base layer?
Well, there are utilitarian reasons. For example opening, or closing lightning channels. If you are running a lightning node NOW is the time to set up your new channels and close the ones that are under-performing.
But even if you are using cold storage... Now is the cheapest time to situate your UTXOs to your advantage. This is a more nuanced topic. But to simplify, if you have a lot of small UTXOs sitting in wallets you might have to spend a LOT of #sats to bundle them into a transaction. And who wants to have to pay high transaction fees when they want to move bitcoin just because they had a mess of little UTXOs sitting around that made the transaction larger than it had to be?
So you can do that now for cheap! And also be ready when you want to buy something large, or move large amounts.
Then again... having UTXOs to spend from that do not reveal your entire stash is also valuable... So if you wanted to break up large UTXOs into smaller ones... again... this is the time.
The nuance here is tricky... but you should be thinking about it in my #humble opinion. (lol I hashtagged humble...)
So:
-What do you plan to do with your accumulated sats?
-Are they in big clumps or broken into lots of teeny ones?
-Would it benefit you to consolidate? (usually)
-Would it benefit you to break then up? (sometimes!)
Well... NOW is the time.
That said... congrats that this is a problem/opportunity for you!
Now is the time to act.
Love, cAPS
Listening to Shostakovitch's 5th and cleaning up some UTXO messes I have here and there.
Pretty sure hospitals have seen basically that scenario.
And it is a sure fire way to get to meet a surgeon.
My advice... backburner forever. 😃
Neodymium. You could do like my daughter did and pin a floppy disk to the fridge. 😵💫
Something nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx said really resonated with me in this episode, as he spoke about ownership over one's content through #nostr
Keeping some sort of diary has always been top of mind, however it's one of those goals that always slips through the cracks. I realized yesterday that nostr is in fact my diary, a historic record of my thoughts, owned by me through private keys and easily passable to my future kids.
As it becomes easier it may benefit us to run our own personal relays to archive these diaries.
They take bitcoin, of course.
Btcpay server. On chain and lightning. BTC/LBTC and liquid Tether.
Oh lord. Here we go again...
