You will always have fungus because nature abhors a vacuum. Nearly all the grow blocks are lions mane or oyster, so if they’re dormant there, they have primacy. They’re safe mushrooms. In theory, you would have less bad fungus because of the good.
The block itself is exclusively the spent grains grow media and mycelium, the “roots” if you will. The spores live exclusively in the fruiting body. If the block is dry, there is no fruiting body.
Here’s some I was going to compost, but they got rained on. Ignore the algae. You’d be getting dry blocks, and they wouldn’t be ugly like this. The white is the roots of the mushroom. Just really corky fiber. 
Spent mushroom grow blocks? Good R value, and they’re even fire retardant. I just don’t know if you can get them in quantity down there.
This is the experience of almost everyone I’ve talked to. If you got one post-coof, their outgoing quality control is nonexistent. It’s probably the only thing that’s holding me back on one. Hope you get it going!

Accellus is all online which I don’t like. We homeschool to tailor the experience to our own kids, and the other side of the computer doesn’t know them. Billings is also a bit of an odd duck, and a bit culty, but I’ve heard it doesn’t show in his curriculum.
We’re using My Father’s World as the framework but it doesn’t have its own math.
MFW is in a 3 year topical rotation, with different but related activities for all grades so you get your younger kids on rotation with the older, and then they’re all learning the same events and subjects but at their own grade level.
It has a specific slant to it, but so does everything. It’s slightly denominational, but I can’t figure out which. Science is young earth based, especially in their extra-curriculars but they also have darwinian evolution as required reading. Leaves it up to you to go ahead and decide.
We use the Mennonite’s Christian Light math. It’s just math. The grades flow well. We cross out a lot of review, because the review remains too pedantic for too long if you’re kid already gets it. If your kid has trouble in math, the level of review is about right.

Mrs Jed and I were just talking about this 10 minutes ago. School choice is basically the only map we care about these days.
I’d rather raise a future generation in some hellscape with love and respect than plant trees in prime soil and perfect water for my gentrified grandkids to sit under and talk about how much they hate me.
I can’t imagine not being the one raising my kids, teaching them life’s lessons, teaching them math lessons. They’re the only reason I #permaculture.
