I love anime so so much.

“‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭LSB‬‬

“They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus *said to them, “If you are Abraham’s children, you would do the deeds of Abraham. But now you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. This Abraham did not do. You are doing the deeds of your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born of sexual immorality; we have one Father: God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

But the fact that they aren’t means you can’t leverage them to bring in new people, it’s actually pretty random which ones you end up on, and confusing which ones you actually need to be on. It’s a good system for making the individual account sovereign, but a very bad system for attracting anyone interesting.

It’s just an example. There are all kinds of reasons why you might want to move instances and it would be way better if you didn’t have to start from scratch every time.

My problem with Nostr isn’t even the soydevs, it’s the fact that there’s no way to bring new communities in. On Fedi, someone can just spin up a domain and shill it somewhere and you suddenly have a whole new population on the network. Gab, Spinster, KF, Poast, and others have done this and completely changed the Fedi culture.

Nothing like that can happen on Nostr, there’s no incentive to host a relay and no one already on Nostr wants anyone except Bitchcoiners to have a voice, so the signal/noise ratio is atrocious to normal people and it will probably never change.

Gleason says this is something he has also considered and wants to fix, and if he can do it, I’m all for that. I just don’t know if he can.

No it’s not. Imagine how many ppl could be saved from the PPN if they could just move everything to another instance without losing anything.

It’s a big deal if they can actually do it.

If it solves nomadic identity, that will be a big one. But I don’t think it has yet.

I think he’s fully bought into making Nostr work somehow, so he doesn’t care that much.

You don’t need an invite, people are already running other instances. I just don’t know what they are. But you can run it yourself, most people just haven’t bothered yet.

The marketing speak is what it is. I don’t get what’s stopping #OurGuys from running the indexers.

Obviously there will be a Great Libtard Wall, but there’s one here too. I don’t think it will be that different, it just remains to be seen if it has worthwhile features to draw people in or not.

It might be the case that the Mitra dev is right and it will be easier to just build these features into ActivityPub, and then we’ll have nomadic identity without having to go anywhere. But something needs to be done about accounts being tied down to instances, and Nostr is obviously not the answer yet, if ever.

I’m not so sold on the hosting model anymore either. It seems like a good idea to decouple accounts from websites, but that also means there’s no incentives for new communities to migrate to the network. I think maybe Blue Sky’s solution will be the better one after all.

Usually it doesn’t require one at first, but then it’ll lock your account within a few days until you give them a phone number.

It’s just hard to ban evade on Twitter these days. Google Voice numbers are increasingly hit or miss and my phone number is banned from even that.

If I could be on Twitter I probably would.

You’re kind of right about Gab. The culture was never great, but now it’s pretty much all Boomers. But there are more people, if you can find a niche you’ll get a lot more engagement there. I used to get literally 5 times as much attention on Gab for the exact same posts, but all of my frens there had kids and stopped posting lol
