wow i did not know DM's can be sold . A lot of customer support programmes is tied to FB DMs. Even gov't agencies engage through FB DMs. And banks lol. Bank customer support request private details through DM to resolve issues. Pretty crazy for a 3rd party to buy all this info.
thanks for sharing! i thought the systemic bias was both an awareness and a heavily used interpretation, but i liked the breakdown of confirmation bias. I understood it better through this book called The Art of Thinking Clearly by Rold Dobelli. I felt that only recently I understood my reactions towards available heuristic, and the more awareness I had towards my actions, it helped me widen the perspective of my surroundings. I've not read his other books or Amos's pieces but i read their research papers and loved the thought processes.
I recently read this book again, in memory of Daniel Kahneman. Over the years, many of his social science experiments have been commonly applied. We all cross integrate System 1 and System 2 approach, but when ego is high, system 1 gets forgotten and when emotions are high, system 2 gets forgotten. Personally for me, sunk cost fallacy has been one of my biggest lessons I've learnt in recent years. If you have picked this book up, would love to know your thoughts. This is a nice video that summarizes the book.
To anyone here using a distiller, are you big on the activated charcoal ?
same here
i think there is a significant lack of empathy and emotional intelligence in society and just shallow thoughts. And it goes both ways. It might be a lack of prefrontal lobe development.
I could have handled that gossip conversation better, and for that i am sorry. i felt bad reading your note realizing you positioned yourself among the attackers after that, its a far cry from it. And thanks for explaining your real purpose and intent, and while i disagree on labeling women as gossipers, having diverse groups and conversations are much better and maybe we can explore other ways. PS : sorry about your past, you learn something from every relationship and it makes you a better person. Hope you are happy regardless! you're cool Mike. take care!
I am that woman who did not like women labelled as gossipers =)
It's a pet peeve for me to bitch about people when you have a million better things to talk about. I'd rather talk to you about an issue that's related to you then to someone else and bitch about you. Make sense?
And if I am talking to you about someone else, that's likely because i trust you enough to have a healthy conversation about it. This circle of trust for me is very small.
That doesn't mean women or men do not gossip - many do and its really bad - but i would not like to be labelled as one based on my gender.
That and really, have you seen how much more men gossip - jk! =)
Anyway, you referring to what gossip was defined based on, does not mean you are a mean person, Mike. And a far cry on the attacks women get. You are probably just an innocent idiot geek who thought you could build something to meet more women =) It took me a while to understand men are idiot sometimes (i don't mean this in a bad way).
Re : On the main issue of this thread - A lot of people are unable to get into a healthy debate and separate personal attacks. There is a severe lack of emotional intelligence and just good manners.
Some of the shitty things men say here are really nasty - I was called a whore for talking about homemade face products, one recently was triggered when i was talking abt tech.
i could have responded ego vs ego but quite frankly i don't have the time to sit down and convince some random stranger i don't give two hoots about nor let him affect how i should run my life so i ignored like i have many others. Doesn't mean it doesn't upset me, nor have I not reacted in the past. I just rather engage with what is relevant and important to me now.
If I am responding here, then its because you matter to me. It's as simple as that.
That also doesn't mean women are not shitty either. I've seen one here cry abuse on sexual harassment, and then verbally sexually harass Jack. I've seen one who puts other people down and get sympathy from the public. Women can be just as vulgar, rude and inappropriate.
It also doesn't mean men should not call out bad behaviors from men or women, its a free world. But there is a diff between personal attacks and calling out bad behaviours, and how you do it.
it's written in 1912, where women typically got married at the age of 13/14. In the book, she was way pass that age around 17 taking on caretakers role of kids, and graduated college at 22 i reckon. if it were written now, then i am guessing the age reference would be much older to suit today's culture and appropriation. Many classic literature defines marrying age in what would be incredibly inappropriate in today's world not because its shallow but because it was written at a time where culture was different and women were not independent yet.
Took a bit of a mind break and picked up this classic literature, Daddy Long Legs, by Jean Webster, published in1912, over a century ago.
The protagonist in the story is an orphan girl with potentials, who was sponsored to further her studies by a mysterious man on the condition that she writes to him once a month.
Initially he was intrigued by her intelligence but as he read her writings , it was candid and heartfelt, and he begin to develop feelings for her. I don’t want to spoil the ending but it leaves the readers with some sense of satisfaction.
I’ve read this book several times since I was a kid and each time it felt diff. Perhaps my perspective evolved over time.
When I was child, it was a story of a hopeless dream coming true. When I was teen, it was all sweet romance. Several years back as I read it it was about the evolving roles of women, the potentials and living life to the fullest.
This time around I was contemplating on Judy's rejection of Jervie - was it due to her complex relationship with Daddy Long Legs and her own sense of independence?
I don’t know if there are still book club readers here who were around a year back but if you have read it, curious to know your exploration and takes on it.
(Keep in mind this book came out over 112 years ago where culture, maturity, age of marriage, opportunity for women was very diff)

Hi, nostr:nprofile1qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wvfskuep0qyg8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnddakj7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcqyq93rrjq6meal2a30us6jjnywuqlzsxckp36n6z0umjgxezwmsyukd6t6fq , Happy Easter Sunday, and Thanks for asking.😁🫂😇
I hope you don't mind, but you may be in for a bit of a story...😜😆 A decade ago, I was developing what has become our flagship product; the SILVERengines *proton*.
My original design concept was to machine some HDPE (High Density PolyEthylene) plastic in two pieces that could be screwed together with half a dozen machine screws and nuts. I made a prototype, and showed it to a couple of machine shops, asking for bids.
Well, the best bid I got was $15 per unit in a minimum quantity of 1,000 pieces, and I would have to supply the HDPE. That was out of the question for a tiny, self-funded agorist startup! But it also told me that I had some capital to allocate for production machinery, and at that point, I began researching 3D printers. This turned out to be revolutionary for my thinking; I started thinking like an FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer instead of an industrial milling machine, and that greatly improved the design of our product.

The case is smaller, uses only two machine screw/nut pairs, is much more refined, and costs us a fraction of the $15 plus material original quote.
After much research, I chose the MakerGear M2 printer because of its industrial grade, rock-solid design and structure.

It cost me about $3,000 delivered--20% of the original quote for parts alone--and it served me very well. As sales expanded, bought a second M2 to have some redundancy and to increase production.
MakerGear's story is a real "American Dream" story:

The printer we now have is an M3-ID, which is as solid as the original M2s but has a number of features (bed leveling, coated heated platform) that make it even better.

MakerGear was fairly early in the 3D printer game, and their products are outstanding, but not cheap. Their story has currently taken a sad turn as a result of the ongoing destruction of the American nation-state:

Well, if you're still reading, Pam, Thank You.🥰 I really appreciate your interest.🫂💜
thanks for sharing this beautiful startup journey of yours and the makergear's initiatives. I wish I was as as smart and explorative as you when I started, only recently the 3D printers have become more affordable for everybody to use here.
I remember reading about them as i was reading on maker spaces and fabrication labs. Its pretty wonderful how an open-source community comes together to help out. I think makergear have to find a way to differentiate themselves to expand their market. I am reading this book call Grow the Pie and it paints diff perspective of growing a business.
I remember your website from last year, and I hope the business is doing well!
you are the second person i know now from a Greek Orthodox background, the first is a friend's husband. I think this Christian denomination is so understated that I grew up thinking it was just Protestants and Catholics. I know very little of Greek Orthodox through my friend but the culture and doctrine similarities and differences are very interesting.
I grew up on the conservative protestant side, when we were young, our parents were like ' you can marry anyone but a catholic boy' lol. Of course everyone widened their perspective over time but i think history and science was what drew me a clear idea on what i wanted to absorb from the religion and what i didn't.
I like the moral takeaways from the bible and use it often, and I think how the community comes together is really wonderful. But i did not enjoy the cultural impositions for fear of losing the religion and the political movements around it and overtime i realised this happens in many religions.
Thanks for sharing, I know very little of Greek Orthodox practices, yet its so widely adopted in Eastern Europe, Russia, Greece. It information like this that often reminds me of how little I know of the world.
Was the brand makergear the original makers of 3D printers? Is it convenient to use / expensive ?
optic illusion ?

are you referring to pharma price gauge ? the piece on merck here was referring to purposeful driven business back in the 80s - not sure if the principles holds true today but the story was true back then.
it's beautiful
