The full process of sending a zap requires an acknowledgement from the receiver's wallet.
Some wallets may not support zaps, others need to be opened first before they acknowledge the zap, and maybe other issues plague the system too.

If it were true, it would be insider trading. This may be happening, but no way it would be talked about or allowed to meet ears that would follow up and tweet about it.

I'd say you are always replying to the message you replied to.
If OP changes their post, your reply disappears.
If someone finds your reply, OPs old post is shown above it with a message "this has since been edited".
Clients can show out of date replies as translucent or faded so readers know it is not a direct relationship and can dig further if they want.

I think duckduckgo crippled itself globally rather than serving my query about Kagi and now it is down globally.
On NOSTR, you can't stop someone seeing your posts by blocking them, you can only stop seeing their posts by blocking them.
If someone writes offensive content and you wish to ignore them, block them. Even their replies to you will be ignored.
If you want to write a private message, create a private group chat or private direct chat and message in private.
Even with twitter if someone blocked me but I wanted yo see their post, I would just load it in an incognito mode browser and I could see their post. Why try to make public posts and try to exclude one person?
Go private or go public. Don't try to abuse the platform to exclude individuals, but do use it to filter out unwanted spam, noise and unplesant content.
