New convo with Robin Hanson and Jann Tallin on "pausing" training of large language model artificial intelligence. Special hat tip to nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev for alerting me to the emergence of open source AI, a topic which yielded an enlightening exchange. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmh6ciu24v0
#[0] how many inquiries can you handle simultaneously?
Good video. I love cathedral vs. bazaar analogy for Bluesky vs Nostr.
My non-technical view of this is that Bluesky might have a quicker early growth spurt because it feels more familiar to Twitter refugees, but Nostr has the longterm advantage because it attracts more people who are here specifically FOR THE DECENTRALIZATION and not because they hate Elon Musk or whatever.
I don’t think Twitter is going anywhere anytime soon. It will likely remain a big, influential network unless and until someone removes Elon from leadership and tanks the company or he simply loses interest and lets the censorship blob take control again or the state goes full-on authoritarian against the social media companies (all possible).
As long as Twitter remains dominant, it seems like it’s going to be hard for what at the moment looks and acts like a Twitter clone with fewer users to compete. Nostr, on the other hand, has a totally different feel because it’s built by and for people who want to resist control and surveillance, which is ultimately the point of cryptography and decentralization. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4c9oy9QQNEc&feature=youtu.be
I agree with Dr. Bhattacharya. One of our best interviews. If you missed the livestream, you can catch it as a podcast. https://reason.com/podcast/2023/05/05/jacob-siegel-disinformation-is-the-hoax-of-the-century/
VERY interesting perspective on AI and centralization. https://damus.io/note188prqv82c24fr0a2skhesfwhxryakvprj7dafw5y5g24nv82nqrqjahfy2
From #[1]. Really interested to listen to his AI-centric podcast.

Interesting. If you can point me to the Google leak, I’d like to take a look and maybe raise this point
True. But there’s no way at the moment to create someone on the scale of GPT-4 without a lot of capital and centralization, right? Hanson makes the point that they could throttle it much the same way nuclear energy was throttled and prevented from reaching its potential.
Are you scared of AI? Think it's time to hit the ol' PAUSE button?
I'll be hosting a debate/discussion about the proposed AI "pause" with Robin Hanson and Jaan Tallin of Skype/Kazaa fame this Thursday at 1pm ET if you're interested.
Yeah, I have no doubt that this is all new to him, and I agree that the talking points are sound. But I'm wondering what the reaction to a figure like RFK, Jr. and all of his baggage going after the "bitcoin vote" is.
Sort of hesitant to even go here, but anyone have thoughts about RFK Jr.'s sudden interest in bitcoin? https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/robert-kennedy-jr-make-campaign-debut-bitcoin-conference-rcna83123
