"On August 15, 1971, the nation accepted the unspoken premise that it was authorities who were better suited to be in control of the money as opposed to the individual citizen who earned it. In adopting the 1980 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the nation accepted the unspoken premise that it was the authorities who were better equipped to define what constituted healthy food, as opposed to the people who ate it."

Fiat Food: Why Inflation Destroyed Our Health and How Bitcoin Fixes It

Great read, highly recommended. Not sold on the 100% meat diet though, I like variety 🫠

"you have to maintain the integrity of the network"

I literally have spent an entire year talking about spam at Taiwan BitDevs, I'm so over it (I get occasional eyerolls) but it still needs to repeated. Keeping the topics technical while others keep nudging toward politics and word games has been frustrating.

My go-to explanation uses the bare-multisig transaction that contains the white paper to point out why we even have OP_Return/datacarriersize in the first place. (Fun fact: that transaction was mined by Eligius 👀).

"Having the white paper on the Blockchain is cool and all, but imagine if instead of a 9 page white paper, it was the Gangnam Style and other viral videos instead? It wouldn't take long before Bitcoin would be f'ed!"

It's hard for many to grasp the bad trajectory Bitcoin is on if people don't talk technicals. I even went over at BitDevs how to apply the filter patch while we went through how to compile Bitcoin binaries, as a means to nudge people to compile their own nodes. I'm also "trying to fix what I can 🥹"

Our fundamental problem is capitalism.

As an environmentalist, I tend not to buy things that I don't need. My daughter knows better than to ask for lemonade at the fair because it'll come in plastic. We brought water bottles for a reason. She can drink that perfectly fine.

She knows I get annoyed at grandma buying all that plastic trash from the dollar store because it gets played with a few days and turn into landfill.

This behaviour is terrible for the economy. The big businesses need infinite economic growth. They need us to buy 3% more trash a year. We have so much stuff that there are industries making legit coin storing our trash that we will realistically never use again. We have entire sectors that make a lot of money off of throwing out our trash for us.

Environmentalism means that many of these new industries will disappear very quickly. It means that fossil fuel billionaires will lose a lot of wealth very quickly.

Does this sound like a system that will change because we sent some politicians backed by rich people to a summit somewhere to talk about it?

The reality is that billionaires' wealth is at stake and they would take complete social and ecological collapse before a dent in their wealth. They want the entire ship to go down believing that they have enough flotation devices they'll come back out on top.

It's not that billionaires don't believe in climate change. They just lied to enough people to convince them of it. They plan on taking advantage of climate change eliminating a lot of the population so they have more resources for themselves.

This is nothing short of murder with a borrowed hand.

you're describing a money problem, not a capitalism problem (environmental waste happens under communism or feudal rule).

bad money leads to bad incentives which is where the incentive to produce waste comes from. the future can't be valued if money loses value; giving control over the money to a handful of central banks and the individuals behind them allows perverse incentives to set the value of the "environment"

installing an instance of pi-hole at my parent's place greatly improved their candy crush/puzzle game experience.

More puzzles, less ads.

ridiculous amounts of ads in those games

I want to point out that at the start of that pandemic, Taiwanese medical professionals sent a notice to the WHO saying there were concerns of a SARS-like flu outbreak happening in Wuhan. (Literally it was some dude scrolling through posts on the internet and was like "uhh, something sounds fucked").

In the midst of the outbreak, some districts in Wuhan then held a massive hot pot festival, ignoring all warnings. Taiwanese sent a team to Wuhan to investigate to follow up on lab leak rumors.

Taiwan is not a member of the WHO. Their results were inconclusive as they could not investigate fully.

A whistleblower doctor by the name of Li Wenliang came forward when their hospital was overrun with cases. He died in February 2020

Taiwan then closed their borders. Italy kept theirs opened along with most nations at the WHO guidelines. Closing borders to China was deemed as racist at the start of the pandemic. WHO Director-General Tedros even deemed this closing borders to China as an attack on the WHO by Taiwan (literal nonsense)

Taiwan operated fairly normally throughout 2020. Taiwan didn't have it's coronavirus outbreak until mid-2021. World could have been much different if the WHO weren't operating like Chinese lapdogs and closed borders at first warning.

Nipsey would have enjoyed this on so many levels 🥰

There's a cultural element too (or the lack of one). There's this notion of looking for those being worse off as a means to be like "at least I'm not doing worse than 'those' people". People are looked down for the strangest things, skin color not even in the picture, a spoken dialect is enough

It's so weird to me to be constantly obsessed with people worse off than oneselves.

It's one thing to have people focused on rankings in addition to class-obsession on their own, but getting to State push that is a whole other ballgame; insidious.

Doesn't seem like normal human behavior, shouldn't they be looking up?

正常人沒在比爛的好嗎?🥹
