#bitcoin 🧐 🇹🇼⚡

it's bluefin tuna season in Taiwan 🤤

the waters are warmer in taiwan fishing waters so the tuna aren't carrying as much fat (and also smaller) when they get caught, but still delicious. the daily catch is auctioned off and processed each day at fish markets around the island, the largest in Pingtung County (dongkang)

akami (赤身) is the back portion of tuna

18,000 sats/kg. having these two pieces delivered to my door, making sushi tomorrow 🤤

fun fact:

The New Taiwan Dollar replaced the Old Taiwan Dollar in 1947 which hyperinflated 40,000% in under two years as the Central Bank of China 🇹🇼 collapsed duing the Chinese Civil war

my grandma tells a story about having to bring a wheelbarrow of money for a basket of eggs

civil unrest followed and i think hyperinflation can be argued to be factor in the island-wide 228 massacre

until 2000 the New Taiwan Dollar was issued by the Bank of Taiwan which was established by the japanese empire in 1895 (still in operation today) and now issued again by a resurrected central bank of china.

ayo daylyt has 2btc?👀

wrd2mimva😵💀

the dead apple 😳

are they interested in staying in business longer than the shittokens they're holding? shittokens dont have a track record of sticking around and sadly some businesses have an even worse time horizon than that.

id tell them that even if they their idiotic goal was to pick and choose shittokens that (hopefully) outlast their business (at minimum) for their reserve, the smart move would still be to hold only bitcoin as everything falls against it.

if their goal was to not hold shittokens, then their resources for further research would be better spent understanding the differences between Bitcoin and everything else that came after it. evidently their resources are misplaced.

or, just drop a "you dumb? 🤨" and move on 🤣

TIL the CIA ran an airline out of Taiwan

still enjoying Rebel Island (2024) by Jonathan Clements. I recommend it to anyone interested in Taiwan, oftentimes people only keep tabs on Taiwan on its context to our neighbors across the Strait or semiconductor production, but there's so much more than that 🤓

i would like to point out that prior to satoshi leaving, bitcoin was maintained by one person to a degree beyond knots (since it carries code anyone can verify is maintained by Core) also.

i would like to express my gratitude to everyone that runs a node and cares enough to use it 😎

i looked through old bitcointalk threads surrounding satoshidice spam

its basically the same conversation as what is being had now. (and arguably rhe same players).

seeing how bitcoin is not filled with dice-spam today; it's a worthwhile fight to have

nostr:npub1jrx2fk666k5nt8vgak9xwyxlgcwh8fl9rvpwvvcpdthuqkcnptrqdfhtaq got me a wonderful Mother’s Day gift! This sampler of oolongs, which are my favorite kind of tea, is really exciting.

My mom was a big fan of milk oolong, so I decided to make my first cup from the Alishan milk oolong in honor of her.

I was slightly wary because milk oolongs are actually one kind I have tended not to like. I’ve only ever had two, but thought both had a weird aftertaste.

This one has no weird aftertaste, but is a pure delight! I would say it’s “foresty” with lots of bright fresh herby notes and a little mild earthiness.

I pretty much always drink fine teas “grandpa style” (throwing all the leaves in the cup and leaving them there) which I’m sure gives the real tea fans palpitations, but I may try to save a little of each of these particular teas to do in a real gongfu way as their makers intended.

Thank you, my love! 🥰

fun fact: 金宣 (jinxuan) is tea variety developed in the 1980s in Taiwan, it was developed by the tea research institute to increase yields by having the plant grow faster sharing characteristics of tea plants grown at higher altitudes. it is among the first of the institute's creation

going along with the mother's day theme, it's namesake belongs to the creator's (who was the first director of the institute) grandmother, theres also another one 翠玉 named after his mother

looks like you solved it, everyone run block relays and push your txs to nostr:nprofile1qqsfy229w70e8lgtxavlz9t78k06yrel6fxyhreteafqet8kfxhhwmg2c6av2

you're trolling arent you 😵‍💫

like... what if blockstream goes down st the exact moment you need it or a flock of birds shits on your satellite dish, perhaps consider mitigating central points of failure by running a node

problem not solved, relaying transactions is a valuable activity for nodes. nodes validating each others transactions is a check on miners to discourage them from filling blocks with transactions nodes dont propagate 😅 because ideally blocks with transactions that nodes care about would propagate better than a block filled with transactions nodes never seen before.

the filters werent updated to handle the bulk of transactions that bloated the utxo set (pr 28408); i would blame the LACK of filters on what caused the utxo set to bloat rapidly as these new forms of datacarriers are allowed to propagate freely on the network circumventing longstanding policy.

this is why it's important to revisit the topic instead of making the situation worse by allowing new/updating nodes relay larger OP_Return that dont propagate on the wider network prior to being mined/confirmed

we're back around the circle, if you're only relaying blocks to the network how do you expect your transactions to get into those blocks 😅 (the answer: you'd have to mine them)

filters are vital to a nodes ability to keep up with the network

nodes communicate on an open p2p network -- without any filters in place a node would be subjected to process all non-bitcoin noise, doing so a node would never have any CPU cycles to keep up with the network.

the filters for what a node relays to their peers are there to facilitate that nodes process only bitcoin things. the defined limitations are put in place as a best effort for nodes to propagate each other's transactions

while there could be arguments on when and what filters to activate or limits to modify, upholding filters would not be an attack on the network. removing them would

setting aside that blockstream products/services are great, that particular example you're using their node (and satellite network), not your own

when you're not using your own node to broadcast transactions, you're relying on someone elses node and trusting them not to be malicious to do it on your behalf. it may seem tinfoil hat-ty, but malicious nodes can get pretty creative, they could set conditions on broadcasting your transaction, track your tx with queries on block explorers to create a profile on what utxos belong to you even if you go to multiple cafes, or just simply witholding broadcasting your tx indefinitely with no recourse. it's not unheard of, better to run a node 👍

blockstream products and services might be great in a pinch (and of public infrastructure they're probably the best) but it is no substitute for running a node they even say so themselves. related to also why it's not advisable to use random electrum nodes too
