Lunch at a tonkatsu speciality shop! Japanese fried pork cutlet, tonkatsu, is a pretty popular food item but having it at a speciality shop is a whole nother level.
It is always fried to perfection. it's their signature dish. their life and blood of the restaurant, after all.
There's unlimited cabbag that is sliced super thin. it is light and fresh when your mouth needs a break from the pork.
My sauce of choice is the traditional tonkatsu sauce. It has a thick syrupy consistency and I believe it is a soy sauce base. My favorite part is grinding your own sesame seeds before you pour the sauce on top. The fragrant nuttiness is a nice addition to the whole dish.

a shoe is an absolute workhorse that moves humanity foward like Bitcoin. And here comes ordinals, thinking they're so minty fresh cuz they were in some dude's mouth once upon a time. They don't realize that they're just garbage that's been spit out. Nothing but a nuisance to be scraped off.
Locally brewed beer bar with an all-you-can-drink offer. only available on weekends though so I didn't get to try it.
basically you pay for an all you can drink pass and you can pour your own at these taps. You can pour a little bit from every kind to create your own taster experience. Each one is a different type of beer locally brewed in Taiwan.
I went with their herbal tea lager. Taiwanese people traditionally drink tea. It is very much a part of daily life. Seeing it inspire the craft beer scene is really awesome

Sometimes we get caught up in trying to do everything by ourselves. Grow our own food, make our own soap, raise our own meat, etc.
It's good to take a step back and realize that we don't have to do it all. We got this magical thing called money.
Even better, we have the best iteration of money that human civilization has ever seen in Bitcoin.
Instead of chasing ultimate self sufficiency by doing all the things, take stock of your strengths, your skills, your interests and do the particular things that you want, do them well and get paid with money. Then go spend it on someone else in your community who is passionate about doing the things that you didn't want to do.
My friend went to the counter to order our coffees. The lady said "hey, we have a special set if you wanna get a souffle pancake!"
So we did. How could we not?

Fluffy souffle pancake with a tangy sweet lemon curd sauce and topped with a thin layer of crispy caramelized sugar. The perfect balance of sweetness and acidity that I LOVE.
The cafe is located in one of the old buildings that part of an repurposed dormitory area that was used for housing factory and laborers early in Taichung's history. A really fun place to explore and see locally designed and made goods.

oh absolutely! when they were served, the barista gave us a full blown explanation on where the beans came from, how they were roasted in house, how it was brewed, how many awards the drink has won at international coffee competitions, the whole nine yards. Awesome experience.

the shorter is a nitro cold brew with rose and lychee. the taller iced coffee with a flowery syrup.

Star Hostel in Taichung 台中 is INCREDIBLE value. I'm staying in a private room with private bathroom for 248k sats but if you're a solo traveller and wanting to stay cheap for a bunk in 8 person shared space then it's only 75k.
It's on the top floor of a department store building. The location is so convenient to the things you'd want to do and see here.

Meat platter from last night's hot pot dinner 🤤 I'm visiting Taichung 台中 for a few days so I'll be posting lots of food and travel photos!
Hot pot is cooking meats, veggies and other hot pot stuff in a boiling pot of broth. Mala spicy is the red broth. It uses a really special peppercorn that has really great spice flavor and a numbing sensation. The redness comes from chili oil.
If you're an adventurous eater, I definitely recommend trying it!

This is 龍眼 Longan and 荔枝 Lychee. The round smooth one is longan. The Chinese name directly translates as dragon eye. The spikey one is lychee, sweeter in flavor.
