I don't do overwhelm.
It's embarrassing but I got this phrase from a free webinar Matthew McConaughey helped put together. I put the audio on the other day when I was driving to the doctor, more curious than anything, and the woman who was speaking said this sentence.
I decided to try to use it in my life since getting overwhelmed is my go-to-state.
And it helps. It's so cool. I start to get overwhelmed, say the magic sentence, and it centers me and brings me back to reality.
Saying "I don't" instead of "I can't" is empowering.
And, the thing is, you can custom the sentence to your need. I don't do blank. I don't do sugar. I don't do carbs. I don't do guilt.
Anything.
It's pretty cool. Especially since it came from a cheesy self-help webinar.

"Understand" by Ted Chiang is one of my favorite sci-fi-adjacent short stories. It's about an experimental drug causing uncontrolled exponential growth of human intelligence, told in the first person. One of the most mindblowing works of fiction I've ever read.
