Last summer our border collie/ Aussie was bit by a Mojave Diamondback Rattlesnake just outside of Quartzsite, AZ. He was bit twice, one was a dry bite and the other was a wet bite, both were on his paws, one front paw and the other a back paw. I was able to get him to the vet (who was amazing) within a half hour from the time he was bitten, antivenom works best if administered within a half hour of the bite. They kept him overnight and released him to us the the next day, they only had to give him one dose of antivenom. But told us he definitely was not out of the woods as the next week or so would determine how his paws were going to heal and if he'd need to have his paw that received the wet bite amputated.

We took him home and I put together a mixture of herbs, lavender, cleavers, calendula, and a tiny bit of comfrey and mixed them with some Manuka honey and applied it to his bites to help draw out and heal his wounds.

I used several references to come up with this mixture of herbs including a book called The Complete Herbal Handbook for Dog and Cat by Juliette De Bairacli Levy. The book is incredible and has so much information about using herbs on pets. The book is old and not in print anymore and Miss Juliette has passed from old age many years ago but I keep her books on hand for these emergencies.

Oh and after two day we went back to the vet amd he was very happy with his healing and told us to keep doing what we were doing and that he was healing so well that he had no concerns about amputation.

Nice! So the tour isn't great but still interesting. They do allow you to drive the roads to look at the various field operations. The store is awesome and so is the food

I personally believe this is what make a better world. Not food in a box, but taking personal responsibility for raising and dispatching what you eat. It grounds you in the reality of what food is, and teaches you a respect for not just what you eat but how it gets there. There's an honor that passes through that process that most of the modern world cannot comprehend because their food is acquired the same way their TV is, just walk into a store and pay for it.

When raising your own food, you become intimate with not only the animal, but the land you're feeding the animal from. It make you more conscious of the cycle of life and your ecosystem. It provides healthy food for consumption, and also begins to heal the soul as you mak connection with the world around you in a meaningful way.
