Random thought:

If I want to make private payments online, the fiat payment rails do not allow it.

Therefore I was thinking about how it would be possible for me to do it. Generally I see 2 ways:

- Online medium

- Payment "transformation"

1️⃣ Online medium

One solution is to create an online medium that people can buy and sell for fiat.

Usage: they buy this medium for fiat, then they can spend it online anonymously. The receiver side can sell it for fiat. Everyone is happy.

Such solutions already exist. E.g.: Bitcoin, ecash, etc.

The problem with them are that they require merchants to accept them. This means, I cannot decide to pay privately with this method until my merchant allows it.

2️⃣ Payment transformation:

Let's say there is a service that converts between payment methods. E.g.: you pay them via lightning and they pay that money forward to the seller via a card payment.

This way you can pay the seller with a method, that they do not support, but still they get the money the way they want.

This way, the service bridgey the problem of merchants not accepting e.g. lightning because they would get the payment method they prefer, and buyers could use lightning.
