Im in it since a very long time, i fail to see BTCs importance more and more.
It offers no privacy, gets AML and KYC´ed everywhere, anybody can see your transactions, still has a1mb blocksize, still has high tx fees onchain, is marketed as a store of value now, was a p2p currency once when i got excited about it.
Lightning promised and lied a lot and offered very little to scale in a self sovereign way.
Now people are stupid enough to want to use Liquid for scaling, a privately owned blockchain with their own shitcoin, which can censor transaction and will do everything the states want them to do... And you have to swap your bitcoin for their controlled shitcoin?
Seriously, why is BTC so important?
It has lost the properties which made it important and did not adopt features which would make it important, like privacy. CBDCs are coming and instead of helping us avoiding the tyranny, Bitcoiners are simping to politics and dont implement anything interesting because they want the state to buy the thing which should separate the money from the state...
Monero is the best alternative currently.
I agree with you, but reliable transactional privacy is critical to not enslaving ourselves.
It is because BTC is transparent and not fungible.
Tell us how to sell 700k worth of BTC without Kyc?
Sure, a fully transparent ledger with no privacy has nothing to do with surveillance.

There is no freedom on a transparent ledger with AML and KYC.
Regarding the recent Proton Wallet, I respect their conscious effort to be transparent and open about the tradeoffs / threat model (especially in their recent blog posts; see below).
I just tested out the wallet, great work.
Though not perfect ATM, they seem to be on a good path so far in building a Bitcoin-only wallet to simplify sending and receiving Bitcoin for their 100 million Proton users.
Presently, they appear to use the Bitcoin Dev Kit (BDK; see below) as a dependency, with coinjoin and the Lightning Dev Kit (LDK) on their radar. Hopefully, we will see silent payments integrated down the line, too.
Nevertheless, as a Proton user, I look forward to seeing how the Proton Wallet evolves 🔥

XMR integration and a easy swap between BTC and XMR would be cool to have stronger privacy if needed. So you can still hodl your favorite store of value but benefit from strong transaction privacy in a user friendly way.
Wash your hair with diluted apple cider vinegar ( 1/8 ), it is awesome.
that some technical illiterate dude like you can upload a 4.1 mb animated gif as a profile pic. pure awesomeness!
Everything has tradeoffs. Monero is just a tool, there is no need to identify with a tool.
Many Bitcoiners made a religion out of it, which makes them vulnerable to not seeing the obvious flaws of BTC, repeating the same bullshit lines their religious leaders give them.
Laser eyes, hodlhodl, never sell - it is all bullshit for low iq suckers.
If you are in it for the freedom, then one should realize that BTC is not fungible and not useful as freedom money at all as it is traceable by anyone on the planet - which is worse than a bank wire.
"From the get go" - it is 7 years already. Lightning is still crap.
BTC is now marketed as a store of value as it lost its properties as a p2p currency. There are thousands of stores of value already, gold is one. The state has no problem with another store of value.
The state has a problem when we use our own money. Especially one which it can not trace.
you forgot that it is fungible and private too.
in order to realize how ridiculously crappy lightning is, you need to use it, run your own node and come to a conclusion.
NGU BTC fanbois mainly hodl and therefore do not realize how crappy BTC has become.
BTC is not decentralized at all, 12 entities control the biggest mining pools , wake up.
There is a reason why the state has no problem with BTC .
i like them with tamarind sauce, slowly cooked.
how open and free is something which scales mainly through custodial solutions?
I do not see why we should use a traceable currency at all.
Tell me more about freedom while i use your custodial wallet Jack.
