I made damus, npubs, and zaps ⚡️ Independent bitcoin core and lightning dev.

We’ll have a new release soon for purple subscribers, not sure when for general release.

it already has the latest version

Awesome!

nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 is https://zap.army/ legit? I just tried it and it seems to work fine which is great!

Just wanna make sure it’s not some malware script before committing to that nsec 😂 #nostr

damus does not have the ability to install malware into itself

I wonder how much AI could have accelerated my learning... or maybe it would have made it worse by not allowing me to figure out stuff by myself. it probably would have been much quicker than the crappy books I used.

you can natively with primal and with a workaround on damus

A post by Eric Hoel which backs up what I've been saying about AI-assisted coding:

https://open.substack.com/pub/erikhoel/p/brain-drain

I was saying last week that I felt like using AI to code made me more distant from the code, making it hard to understand and maintain in the longer term. I called this "legacy code generation". There's also a long-term effect:

> There’s increasing evidence for the detrimental effects of cognitive offloading, like that creativity gets hindered when there’s reliance on AI usage, and that over-reliance on AI is greatest when outputs are difficult to evaluate.

This is balanced by AI helping experts to fit more context into their brains at once, to work at a higher level, which is definitely a super power. I was even wondering the other day whether both versions of programmer might coexist in the long-term — one in-the-weeds, highly productive programmer might complement a high-level prompt engineer.

Also, this sentence makes me feel good about my default position of skepticism:

> For individuals themselves, the main actionable thing to do about brain drain is to internalize a rule-of-thumb the academic literature already shows: Skepticism of AI capabilities—independent of if that skepticism is warranted or not!—makes for healthier AI usage.

I saw one article that said that they could barely code after their cursor IDE went down because chatgpt was down. realizing there's a whole generation of coders severly dependent on AI to do their job. that is crazy. I use it for boilerplate and tedious stuff, can't imagine being dependent on it.

imagine if everyone could code and if they ran into an issue they could just fix it themselves. I thought this would be way more common since damus is open source, but we get close to an average of 1-2 fixes from random people every *year*.

nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 has the special feature of “undestructable” npubs.

Once followed, forever in your stream.

It marks them as unfollowed but keeps showing their notes.

Unpopular opinion: Because of this problem, because of the refusal of relays block image links which contain CSAM, several of the major Nostr apps, possibly including nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q , nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg , and nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 will be kicked off the Play Store and App Store. This might happen fairly soon, too. Web applications will be fine and won't be impacted. Relying on "user reports" or "web of trust" is a joke and won't prevent these apps from getting killed by Apple or Google. Sorry.

damus does everything it can to block this stuff, and we are continuing to do so:

https://github.com/damus-io/damus/issues/2853

https://github.com/damus-io/damus/issues/2854

every platform has to deal with this stuff, it's not just nostr clients.

It says providers have to report content hosted somewhere instead of recklessly hosting or doing nothing to remove them.

Relays should do their best to stop these links, but my point is that it doesn’t actually solve anything when you can get the links from relays that don’t do this filtering.

the problem is not the links, the people hosting the content is the problem

and of course this would be configurable in the client.

talking about it some more with the team, its probably more effective to just put a bigger warning when unblurring images for the first time.

i was about to turn mine off the other day because lots of apps are now adding protected events to things like relay group chat? I couldn't use flotilla with my relay because of this.

We have the worst memes nostr:note1ym4c8qsjjmgv4dzqcagnvcasxhfdyq2v04xhjkcgvr72th0hz8kqfww3j0

We live in an age where you can get AI to give its legal opinions on the temporary restraining order against DOGE. Much better than getting some random persons opinion.

I just copied the judge’s order pdf text directly into chatgpt and got some pretty interesting results, and was able to ask follow up questions about specific orders:

you are tagged on my reply to you, so you get that notification. notifications are sent to anything you are tagged in. this is why it says "tagged" instead of "replied"

Hmm i wonder if i should make a custom field for this now since the comment field has been ruined

When you post via nostr:nprofile1qyx8wumn8ghj7cnjvghxjmcpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqqgzn9kpsmllqnsf7wh5tz3wgy4cclsftqqplv8tpayrhwgw8llunevgnmdf3 , get a notification, but it's the same npubs over and over again. Does this happen to anyone else? #asknostr
