working on getalby.com - a browser extension with lightning and Nostr support

the wallet interface focuses on lightning. To send onchain bitcoin go to node -> deposit. You can also generate new onchain addresses there.

but the hub is not a good onchain wallet - it's for lightning and thus mainly uses onchain to open channels or withdraw funds.

nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm If I have GetAlby-Hub connected to my own LND node, GetAlby cannot see my transactions, can it? I wouldn't like that otherwise.

And where is the secure wallet connection string stored? Because on another computer, I was expecting to have to enter it again, but it loaded automatically (connect with GetAlby-Account). So is the NWC string stored somewhere in Alby's cloud?

each connected application has a its own NWC secret. You can edit permissions or delete them any time on the connection page.

The GetAlby account is nothing special and also just such a connection - which is created by default when linking the account.

If you keep the account linked then you see the transactions on the getalbycom dashboard, you get email notifications, etc.

You can unlink it any time, then alby does not get anything.

Anybody tried the docker compose file to install nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm Hub on your own hardware?

What is installed on the hardware? How much space is required?

you should give it at least 512MB memory. better is 1GB.

The volume should probably be 1GB+.

other than that not much requirements.

let me know how it goes and if you have questions.

yes.

if you connect your node to the Alby account then the money is debited from the node.

(technically speaking this is default NWC: a send request with an invoice is sent to your hub which then processes it based on the app connection permissions)

that is mostly my stand, but also companies are a group of people coming together for a cause - which they think is important - serving others.

For example maybe we should tell people more about the importance of open source or privacy?

I mean I also don't like blocking in general.

but as we have open source license for example I was wondering if values of a project should be more actively shown to the user and users required to accept them (like the ToS).

I very much agree and this is kinda what excited me about the internet and what got me into programming.

but is this enough?

every good company does things with a purpose to solve problems and improve lives and the world - what the company considers important.

every company is also a platform for their customers.

I am thinking of terms like whatever the company values.

The declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace

The universal declaration of human rights

Rejecting crimes against humanity

Rejecting all those privacy eroding laws

Support for cases like the Assange

...

With Israel's relentless bombing of civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza and Israel committing genocide in Gaze: should companies be more political and for example inform their users or block users or make users to accept certain terms?

What are your thoughts?

Also where to start if neutrality is not an option?

we’ll also put more work in our Relay in the next months. if somebody is interesting in it, let me know!
