Joining #screenshotsaturday with a fun double project!

I'm building a set of plug and play web components to declaratively build a virtual gamepad, they'll be released as a open source standalone project soon.

To find possible edge cases for the gamepad, I've made a controllable 3D RC Drone with pure CSS and a little bit of vanilla JS.

I'll be sharing the code of this one too.

This is amazing!

Nice!

#gamedev #screenshotsaturday #bitsy I love making 8 bit/chiptune music

Can't see it on my end ๐Ÿ˜ž. Maybe it's me. I haven't tried to upload video yet, but screenshots are pretty reliable for me.

This might be on your roadmap already, nostr:npub1zach44xjpc4yyhx6pgse2cj2pf98838kja03dv2e8ly8lfr094vqvm5dy5, but I think it'd be awesome if flare.pub was also a streaming client. And, eventually, it might have a stream to vod pipeline like YouTube or twitch.

Attn ppl doing #gamedev!

I've been wanting to see more #screenshotsaturday posts here on nostr. And, I'd like to get in the habit of doing it myself. So, for this one, I've been learning #bitsy , messing around with sprites and animation. It's a lot of fun! If you're a no or low code kind of person, it's a very accessible place to get started.

I'd really like to see more posts from ppl making games even if it's not Saturday where you are ๐Ÿ˜. Will be following #screenshotsaturday to keep track.

This'll probably sound like a broken record, but I'd say it depends.

The downside of redundancy is that it could clutter and overwhelm a user on a home screen or settings screen for example.

One kind of flow you might consider is something like deep-linking. A conditional banner notification saying there's now a dark mode could link to the toggle on the settings page instead of there being a toggle on the home screen header and one on the settings page.

Have you seen the hackathon project nostr:npub1arkn0xxxll4llgy9qxkrncn3vc4l69s0dz8ef3zadykcwe7ax3dqrrh43w and I made? It supports 1 game engine now, but the vision is to do what you're describing.

You know I even like this ui with the gauges and stuff for the final version.

It's sort of like you're in the mech cockpit

Dear #Nostr community,

Today, I want to address a critical issue thatโ€™s been on my mind and on the minds of many in our decentralized world: the hypothetical scenario where app stores decide to ban all on-ramps to #Nostr apps.

This situation poses significant questions about the future of decentralized platforms, the role of major app stores, and the resilience of the #Nostr community in the face of censorship (which we probably will see in the 2024 elections).

If app stores were to ban #Nostr apps, the immediate impact could be a barrier for average users to access these platforms through the most common channels (e.g Apple App Store & Google Play Store)

This move could be seen as an attempt to curtail the reach of decentralized networks, influenced by various factors including regulatory pressures, content concerns, or even competitive motives from centralized entities. The tech giants want to maintain their monopolies.

However, the decentralized ethos of #Nostr is not one to back down in the face of such challenges. Alternative methods of accessing #Nostr, such as sideloading apps from websites or using other, more open app stores, would likely become more prevalent.

This situation would not only test but also potentially strengthen the communityโ€™s commitment to decentralization, privacy, and freedom of expression.

From a game theory perspective, this scenario presents an intriguing interplay of actions and reactions.

App Stores would have to balance their policies with the potential backlash and the growing demand for decentralized applications.

Users might be divided between those who find alternative ways to access #Nostr and those who are deterred by the additional steps required.

Developers could be incentivized to innovate and create more robust methods for distributing their apps, thus promoting an even more resilient decentralized ecosystem.

The Silver Lining โ€ฆ

While a ban from app stores can be seen as a setback, it could also serve as a catalyst for growth and awareness.

Such a move would bring into sharp focus the importance of decentralizing not just our platforms but also the means of accessing them.

It could spark a larger conversation about digital rights, censorship, and the role of major corporations in our digital lives.

As we navigate these challenges, itโ€™s crucial to remember that the strength of #Nostr lies in its community and the shared belief in a decentralized future.

Letโ€™s continue to support each other, explore alternative access methods, and stand united for the principles of decentralization, privacy, and free speech.

Letโ€™s embrace this challenge as a chance to innovate, grow, and show the resilience of our community.

Stay humble and stack sats,

Mason

Please comment. I realize I donโ€™t know what I donโ€™t know. This is an open discussion around the principles of decentralization and free speech and I want to learn more.

Nice write up!

It makes me think of recent news regarding epic v. Google. I'm not a fan of this kind of government action, but the recent ruling in favor of Epic might force Google to be more permissive toward alternative app stores.

We're doing async now!

If we do have a call, it won't be regular like before.
