For some of our younger plebs here, there's no time like the present to start learning about homeschooling, microschools, and all of the other possible alternatives out there.
Even if you don't have kids yet, you can still spend your time well by researching classical education, Montessori, worldschooling, language learning systems, the Charlotte Mason approach, and much more.
Then, take what you learn, and share it with your fellow Nostriches as well as in your local communities. That's how we can improve the world for the better.

Yesterday, I mentioned how there are a number of different options for the education of children and teens. It's not just government schooling or unschooling. There are all sorts of private & alternative options out there.
When it comes to adults, especially those of us already in the workforce, we can discuss education in quite a few different ways.
The first thing I would highlight though is that, for many of us, we have to really learn how to learn again. Our past schooling typically taught us to memorize and drill for quizzes and tests. (Flashcards, anyone?) Yet, as adult learners, we can take our learning into our own hands. There are methods like SQ3R to help with reading. There are notetaking techniques like Zettelkasten. We can tease all of these and more out in future discussions, but know that your learning doesn't have to follow the approaches you remember from your youth.
As adults, besides the techniques, what kind of adult learning exists?
- Independent study for your own personal growth & benefit
- Independent skill building for employment
- Additional university degrees to develop in or to change into a career path
And more.
Each of these has its own methods, techniques, and even alternatives. For example, do you have to quit your job to go back to college? Do you need 100,000 USD or more to get a Bachelor's? Nowadays, there are so many options, and things are not like they were in the past.
Let me know what piques your interest here, and I'd love to tease out all of these options with you soon.

Is there a way to follow a hashtag on Plebstr?

What is everyone's favorite web-based Nostr client?
I started with Iris and Coracle but eventually settled on Primal. I liked the look & feel of it, and I also loved the different 'explore' features.
Lately though, I've been running into problems where I'll click 'follow', 'post', or some other function and either get an error message...or have nothing happen at all. A page refresh will sometimes fix the issue, but other times nothing works...and I'll have to jump back to Iris or Coracle to get a post published or to follow an interesting Nostrich.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues? Have you found a way around it? Are there other web-based (or desktop-based) clients you'd recommend instead?

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
When we think of education, we are often speaking of the traditional sequence of learning that happens from kindergarten through high school (or sometimes university as well). In other words, the education of children and young adults.
If this is our focus, then we have the traditional government systems around the world as well as unschooling as described by Max DeMarco's newly released expose.
Yet, there's a wealth of other options in-between. There are the private schools, which typically mimic the same general format as government schools. But what else can we look to?
Here are just a few ideas for us to explore together:
#homeschooling
#microschools
#worldschooling
#Montessori
#CharlotteMason
#ClassicalEducation
#HomeschoolCoops
That's not to mention the various hybrid models, which integrate some homeschooling by parents with online instruction.
If you're a parent or even a fellow educator, there are so many options to choose from. Don't think you're stuck with only one or two choices. Explore as many as you need, and pick what works best for you and your family.

Fascinating! I was always accustomed to Western doctors or even TCM folks being generalists, but I'd never thought about someone specializing in just a handful of herbs. It makes a lot of sense though.
Out of curiosity, how would you go about selecting the ones to focus on? Would they be the ones that are local to you? That you grow yourself? Or perhaps some that you have used and found useful for yourself and your family? Some other criteria?

Has anyone developed a way to export all of our notes/events from a given relay or set of relays?
It'd be great to back up content and to be able to sort through notes manually on my desktop without having to scroll through an entire feed of reposts and whatnot.

I woke up earlier to nostr:npub1lelkh3hhxw9hdwlcpk6q9t0xt9f7yze0y0nxazvzqjmre3p98x3sthkvyz's latest video release, this time about education. Before I even made coffee (sorry #coffeechain), I watched the entire thing in one go.
Max did a fantastic job of introducing some of the key issues to everyone (normies, Bitcoiners, and everyone else alike), and I love that he shared them in such a personal way, through the life of his friends' families.
In case you haven't watched yet, he touches on these and many other topics:
-The origins of modern schooling
-Problems of the current system
-The alternative known as unschooling
I hope people really digest these ideas and then...run with them.
Why? Because there is so much more for you to discover about educational alternatives and not just for kids. I'll try to push out a few short notes over the next few days with some areas for all of us to explore.

I was interested to see in your profile that you're an herbalist. I vaguely know that there are different 'schools' of herbalism, such as the broad 'Western' schools, the Traditional Chinese Medicine school, etc.
So firstly, is that generally correct? And if so, do you belong to a particular school of herbalism?
I think Obsidian would be great for that. You could take loads of individual notes and find ways to link them altogether.
I've even seen plugins that help generate lists of all content with particular hashtags or combinations of hashtags, which I imagine would be ultra-helpful for academic writing.
Out of curiosity, what are you looking to do your dissertation on?
What is the strangest fact you have learned in the last few weeks?
It could be about a person, your country, the planet, or anything in the known universe.

Expanding my understanding of a number of new and interesting topics, whether that be history, geography, languages, religion, archaeology, psychology, or most anything else.
I am learning how to use Obsidian,
I loved this thing he said
"nobody likes me they only like NoteStar"
I think Twitter or X is feeling that now.

Obsidian is fantastic. I learned about it from a random beginner guide like what you linked to here and made it my sort of catch-all place to keep notes about day-to-day events, to-do lists, random journal-type thoughts, and even the odd note for some online classes I'd signed up for.
But lately, I've been trying how to better use Obsidian and to organize my thoughts and notes in more coherent ways.
The first thing I've been trying to learn about is Zettelkasten. There are probably hundreds of channels teaching about both analog and digital Zettelkasten, but I enjoyed several video's from Vicky Zhao's channel. Here's one of her introductory videos here: https://invidious.no-logs.com/watch?v=GpV47rUYk8I
The other main thing I've been looking into to improve my Obsidian usage is Tiago Forte's PARA method. He's just started a series on his approach, and you can find the first episode here: https://invidious.no-logs.com/watch?v=T6Mfl1OywM8

The HTML (kind 5392), JavaScript (kind 5394), CSS (kind 5393), and Images (Kind 1965/1964) are all hosted inside several relays and can be moved to any other relay if needed by simple broadcasting.
One day browsers will fetch nostr:
Code is here: https://github.com/vitorpamplona/nostr-web-server
Does this mean we can escape free (Github et al) and paid hosting options for our personal and professional websites?
This is a huge step in #digitalsovereignty.

Muting/blocking at least gives you a cleaner feed, but reporting is likely pointless.
In addition to the skill itself, have you noticed any other benefits (or side effects)?
Ich liebe Plebstr.
Amethyst war nur okay, but Plebstr sieht schön aus und funktioniert ganz gut.
