Mind is currently melting thinking about #blossom

This order is from 2022, just fyi for those reading. Not that the point is any less important, just don't get spooked like this just happened. Keep building and stacking 🫡

Don't worry. Unless you now see a big surveillance camera pointed at your house, there is nothing they could have done up there that is worse than what they are already doing in their data centers 😅

Their contributions to date have been educational and it would be kinda crazy to minimize them. They just started making the pivot to focus on Bitcoin technology. Would reserve judgement

And then it CRASHED all the way down to ...*Checks notes*... $67k

# Nostr Clients

Ever felt boxed in by apps like Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook? These platforms are like living in a single-story house with one window—you only get one view of the world, dictated by the company behind the app. This is because they are centralized; everything runs through their one-size-fits-all app, limiting your perspective and control.

Enter the Nostr network, a breath of fresh air in a crowded room. Nostr clients are like having keys to an entire city of houses, each with its unique design, windows, and views. You're no longer confined to the limitations of a single app's functionality, design, or rules.

With Nostr clients, you can choose an app (client) that resonates with your needs and aesthetic preferences. Want an app that focuses on short form text? There's a Nostr client for that. Want an app that focuses on long form articles/essays? There's a Nostr client for that. Prefer a visually stunning interface for art sharing? There's a client for that too. It's like switching between Instagram for visuals, Twitter for quick updates, and LinkedIn for professional networking—all within the Nostr ecosystem, without ever giving control to one central authority.

Nostr clients empower you to navigate the digital world in a way that traditional, centralized apps like TikTok or X can't. They offer a mosaic of experiences, ensuring that your voice, preferences, and interactions remain yours. In the Nostr universe, diversity thrives, and your choice of client is your ticket to exploring this vast, decentralized landscape.

Any social media app with a delete button is a big fat phony!

Yea, so admittedly this is conceptually different than when you're dealing with a traditional social media app that effectively uses 1 "relay" owned and controlled by the same people that create the app. They can say "hey when you click delete we promise we'll delete it" (although that's a shallow promise also, they keep everything, they just are saying they won't show it to other users")

Which app are you using? Some apps and relays do support "deletion requests" and post edits.

"Deletion requests" are called deletion *requests* because the app can't force all relays to delete your post. The app author and relay owner are different parties. A "request" is the best the app can do.

Edits are somewhat similar. When you edit a post on Nostr you're really creating a new post and the apps just understand how to replace the old with the new when they pull the posts down from the relays. But the ability to do this is up to the app.

That story is more about both Bitcoin/Lightning and Nostr being completely open protocols that anyone can build on. It's not the case that nostr was originally designed to work with Bitcoin/Lighting or visa/versa. nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s just had an idea, so he built it. Now everyone uses it. For example, nothing about nostr prevents other types of zaps (other currencies) someone would just have to build it and it would have to catch on (long shot 😉 )

great question, many relay providers are dabbling with paid/subscription services. They improve the functionality of the relay in some way (anti-spam, improved performance, high availability), and in return users send them some sats to use the relay. Relays could also be stood up simply if you need more control. But to your point, there are no "rules". A free market is emerging and the market will decide what type of relay is valuable.
