Got my azolla from TexasPuma today. Thanks again 👍
Oh yeah. Totally worth it. Helps offset the cost of feed too. Way better than the Sudan grass hay they were getting recently.
F*©K! This always happens when you look away for a second.
But hey we ran temp lines to section off some of our property to rest and hopefully rebound with some incoming rain next week. Plus got the neighbor's property strung up too. Saw lots of wild oats, barley, filaree, vetch, & clover when placing the step in posts. This will be a good graze for them AND help fireproof the neighbor's property. And if their property is protected, then mine benefits too.

That dude is screwed. Instead of peeing his pants he should have pee'd on his arms..
Great thank you. I have to take all the optimistic marketing material with a huge grain of salt.
Yup, that's the type of fodder system I'm looking to build. If they are willing to let me know if they would do it again, that's one of my biggest questions. I know it's a big time commitment but with the cost of hay and diesel I don't think it's going to go down for a while. Plus my hypothesis is that the livestock will be gentler and have a lighter impact on my existing pastures if they are getting enough from the fodder.
I've bought plants from Nick and other fodder trees from other locations. Planning on doing some silvopasture with Mulberry and others. I just posted a pic of our mini Missouri Gravel beds that has held some of his trees since June 2020 . I'm looking to do the sprouted barley type system. Mold control is my biggest question along with thoughts on how to recycle the water if possible.
Here are some mini Missouri Gravel Beds I made from water tubs and pea gravel. The trees have been in these for almost 3 years. Some were originally from Nick Ferguson (June 19, 2020 picture). I didn't mean to keep them in here for that long but goes to show they can do fine and a great way to hold them until you're ready to plant them. Once I transplant some of these this year I'll take some pics of the roots.

With the warm weather arriving so are the rattlesnakes. When out feeding the livestock this evening the kiddos found a rattler out near the seasonal creek. This one had 10-12 buttons. It started crawling under a rock when I went to grab the camera from the UTV so all I got was an image of the tail.

Work smarter, not harder. Nice recycle.
Good stuff. We should chat some time. So many cool things to do with #HomeAssistant. We even started using it as a ledger for our kids' allowances so they can track how much spending $$ they have.
What really helped me start making my own devices for HA was ESPHome.
I'm looking for people that have experience growing #fodder for your livestock. I'm considering building a system that can provide up to 600 lbs a day, most likely barley or wheat, for my cattle, water buffalo, pigs, chickens, ducks, & pigs. Looking for real world experience.

Tomatoes, basil, mint, & hops. This pic was from 10 years ago. Sending you a PM in regards to your Azolla.
Anyone else use #HomeAssistant for their homestead? I made a water tank monitor with a pressure sensor, a flow meter tied to a shut off valve so that when the livestock break the water line it doesn't drain the water tank, temperature and humidity sensors that will alert me if my incubator temp or humidity goes out of tolerance. All with no programming!
A few projects to get to include: a relay I can turn on and off with my phone to disable my hotwire fence so when working on the other end of the property I can turn it off without shocking myself, an electric fence monitor to alert me if its not hitting hard enough, and updating my solar powered semi-automatic chicken coop door and lights to be set via the sunrise and sunset rather than set times.

We used it extensively for medical device instrumentation design and feedback with surgeons. A few times we had metal parts made for custom knee and hip instrumentation.
