And I know you tagged the OP but based on the general other posts I’ve seen about people reacting to what you’re saying and what I’ve said I’m assuming the response will not be productive to the conversation so it feels like a total “talk until you’re blue in the face” situation to even bother saying this. But I want you to know I agree and I appreciate everything you’re saying about this

And also the word pleb, I agree, it doesn’t feel great to be called a pleb. It feels like shitty college frat hazing, it’s slightly better than neo-Luddite or whatever but not great.

I agree with everything you’re saying about this stuff as a newbie who is losing interest in this place and I only keep coming back at this point because it feels like a puzzle I can’t crack. And I don’t like that. So I’ve been trying to crack it. But I leave frustrated and exhausted most times.

And if they ask people will tell them and help them. You have to take a little initiative. That will change over time I’m sure.

I joined Nostr in December and there were barely an memers on here, or at least I didn’t know how to find them. I love memes so I just started making and sharing memes, and pretty quickly I started finding other memers who saw my posts in the global feed, or I saw theirs, and followed each other, and those have now become some of the people I interact with most and have even connected off Nostr with a few of them. You just have to start. Well, you don’t have to, but that’s the only way it works right now. If you don’t have the time then nobody can fix that for you.

Nostr.band is probably the best search tool right now, but search/discovery needs to improve a lot. Another thing you can try is to use someone else’s public key to login to a client. You’ll see Nostr from their perspective, you just can’t post anything as them because you don’t have their private key. But find an account that you like and login with their public key, and you might find some good follows that way too.

But someone has to do it right?

Don’t find a community, create one. You mention your interests enough and people will show up. In the meantime expect to see the communities that have already been built.

Unfollow anyone who talks about bitcoin and invite your non-bitcoin friends to follow you. I don’t feel like that’s an honest question but that’s the answer.

I have an honest question: if one doesn’t want to see a single mention of bitcoin, where can they go on Nostr?

Maybe they don’t want to hear about bitcoin because they don’t like it, or maybe their government bans it..

There is space on Nostr for any and every topic. Having a community that is enthusiastic about their topic of choice does not make it an echo chamber. If bitcoin isn’t your topic of choice there’s nothing wrong with that, but there’s also nothing wrong with it being the topic of choice for others. Join or start a different community that discusses and posts things that interest you. There is nothing at all stopping you from doing that.

Simple, two words: echo chamber. If I login here every day and see the same meme about Bitcoin over and over then I'm going to quickly lose interest. We all like Bitcoin. Let's be social and engage in discussions or arguments.

Pushing a new build

The worse part about bluesky is its "Reputation System", which can limit your reach in the "What's hot" section if you said something "hateful".

Even if someone you invite (with invitation code) ends up saying something "hateful", that will also negatively impact your "reputation."
