nostr:npub1g0wmxtcsjnnmq7x2vdpymczss47ch5gzuwfkw47s22lehvklxa2scpuvzk I do it because it drives me to use my SG membership to its full capacity (and technically a greater capacity than SG would like, but that's irrelevant). If I wasn't searching through things to post, I might log on to SG once a week or so and just look at a few sets, but when I post sets it forces me to look at way more than I ever would normally. It's kinda just turned into a hobby for me, and others can now benefit from it.

I appreciate your sharing those images with us. Until you did, I had forgotten about SG after they were in that one episode of CSI:NY.

“[M]uch of what the #state does would be deemed horribly immoral if done by anyone else. E.g., if anyone else decides to ‘tax’ people, we call that theft; if anyone else decides to ‘go to war’, we call that mass murder; etc. We deem these actions acceptable for the state because the state ‘has authority’. But why does it have authority?”

Can’t we distinguish between the Bitcoin network being used by people you or I don’t like (fine), or being used to purchase things which you or I disapprove of (fine), and the Bitcoin network being used to do things other than sending payments?

“No model of the political spectrum will ever be satisfying, the Lewis brothers argue, because ‘left’ and ‘right’ are not actually ideologies—they are ‘bundles of unrelated political positions connected by nothing other than a group.’ An American in 2004 who wanted low taxes, a vigorous war on terror, and a constitutional amendment against gay marriage was taking ‘right-wing’ positions, but what linked such disparate opinions? Nothing but sociology, say the Lewises: ‘A conservative or liberal is not someone who has a conservative or liberal philosophy, but someone who belongs to the conservative or liberal tribe.’”

I suggested this a week ago! Vitor shot me down.

Is that the commonly accepted hashtag? I’ve just been posting songs with hashtag “music.”

Some form of ruling party will decide whether or not a set is good enough to promote it to a full SG set, and it is seemingly kept as nebulous as that on purpose. The model themselves may have to do some form of legwork behind the scenes to get promoted to a full SG model as well, but the whole thing is sort of a mystery.

A secretive tribunal with no written criteria. Sounds like a process that encourages politicking.

I think that would depend on how the goods were consumed. An environmentalist would probably not oppose someone buying used clothes to send her children to school, for example, but probably would oppose someone else buying the clothes to make porcelain doll outfits. The environmentalist critique of Bitcoin is ultimately based on a value judgement.

A yellow-crowned night-heron, I’m pretty sure.

I haven’t seen any of the Ju-on movies but I did see Ringu and its disowned sequel, Spiral. Ringu was pretty good. Spiral was a mess.

Tokyo Sees 20% Increase in Syphilis Cases; Remarkably More From Women in Their 20s

If the declining birthrate of Japan wasn’t enough, the nation is dealing with another kind of problem with sexually transmitted diseases, and Tokyo has been hit the worst, with a 20% increase in reported syphilis cases and “remarkably more” from women in their 20s.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government held a liaison conference to discuss infectious diseases, where it was reported that the number of reports of syphilis in Tokyo was about 20% higher than the previous year. More specifically, the number of syphilis reports in Tokyo was 1,297 as of May 11th.

The increase of women in their 20s infected by the sexually transmitted disease was said to be “remarkable,” and the metropolitan government plans to continue conducting free and anonymous tests throughout the year and help women with events such as a “Ladies’ Day” to strengthen their inspection system.

In any case, people looking to mess around with ‘Toyoko Kids’ and others in the area will likely be thinking twice before jumping into love hotels.

The first comment: I remember a few years ago, 2 Chinese dudes learnt that they syphilis or another sex transmitted disease, decided to spread it to as many women as possible, with they doing it with over 200 women in the span of a 3 months until they were discovered and arrested.. The damage they did was considered incalculable as those 200 women likely spread the disease to over 150 men each for over 30.000 cases of the disease spreading.

I remember that evil plan about these Chinese dudes too, so they success. 😬 And the Chinese people wonder why they’re hated.

Is that 20% more than all of last year’s cases, or 20% more than the cases by May 11 last year?

In perspective, Tokyo’s population is supposedly ~ 14 million, not counting its greater metropolitan area. 1297 people with syphilis is about .01 % of that. I don’t know how that compares to other cities.

You could cover the conflict between the two types of Bitcoin enthusiasts: the ones who like Bitcoin’s resistance to censorship and independence from government; and the ones who like to play with Ordinals and BRC-20 tokens.
