I'm basically selling my purchasing habits and patterns for a discount on gas.
The big box grocery store offers gas coupons for spending money at the store and then the credit card I use to pay for the gas offers 10 percent back in Bitcoin on up to $250/mo.
Been getting gas for less than $3/gal plus another 10 percent back in Bitcoin.

Fiat clown world forces me to play games to minimize the damage of the debasement on my purchasing power. I sacrifice some financial privacy for cheaper fuel, it's a worth while trade off to me.
Sometimes I feel like the main character in Punch Drunk Love, Barry, trying to game the rules on the frequent flyer miles food promotion. I think it's one of Paul Thomas Anderson's best movies.
By reading the fine print, I know that I can get the discount up to 30 gallons so I bring some 5 gallon gas cans to fill after my car is topped off.

No problem with pests. I don't think the ground was loose enough.
I tried following the garlic with carrots last season but something wasn't right. Ended up with spindly stumpy carrots.
The design of my food forest uses 3 swales planted with fruit/nut crops along with perennial berries and vegetables. Each plant was selected to fill a niche but also offer some sort for food yeild as well. Once established very few other plants should have room to grow. Instead of weeding, I will be managing the perennials and harvesting. While the perennials establish, I am taking advantage of the light between the rows to grow subsistence crops like potatoes, squash and garlic. When I grow the annuals, I bring fertility into the food forest. When the canopy closes and there isn't enough light to grow the subsistence crops any more, I will have built soil to feed the fruit trees for a long time. There's more to it, but that's the high level concept of my food forest design.
Garlic is planted in the food forest

The garlic is planted and munched with straw donated to the homestead by a generous permie bitcoiner from the southwest Michigan meetup. The garlic is planted in the row which the potatoes were harvested from earlier in this summer. I didn't have time to add any additional compost so this planting will be a good indicator of the strength of the soil in the food forest with out any additional inputs. All I have to do now (besides weeding a couple times) is wait until harvest next July.

Edgar Cayce talks about this in several of his readings. The purpose of life is to achieve our highest ideal. We keep coming back over and over again until we accomplish this. Choosing the parents each time which might help facilitate that experience, maybe through love and nurturing or through struggle and hardship.
I'll keep it in mind for next year. Thanks for the tip! I'm sure others can get a lot out of the information too.
When do you apply?
No, I am basically too lazy to manage my gardens with sprays. I think in this case the plant itself was weak to powdery mildew so I'll just accept the loss. This is another reason to value diversity, because I have a diversity of plant genetics and micro climates in the cannabis garden not all the plants were lost to the mold. Plus, I don't have to worry about spending as much extra effort to obtain the yeild.
I agree, do you think it's likely that the PM jumped from the squash to the cannabis? It is planted in the food forest about 150ft away from the cannabis garden. I think the problem is more so with the specific plant. The others in the garden have no issues but this plant was covered. It might be the way it grows more bushy and with lots of overlapping fan leaves while the others are more spread out. Maybe this plant is also just susceptible to powdery mildew, something in the genetics?
No, I don't actually live in the yurt. It's designed to accommodate short term stays not living there for extended periods of time.
It's possible that we choose our parents and that we live many lives. If this is the case, it is our responsibility to make the best of our situation after all we chose the path with all of the potential trade offs. If one has all their basic needs accounted for then they might find ideals in improving the world for all, in large or small ways. Do we want to participate in life by extracting capital or building it?
One of the cannabis has succumbed to powdery mildew.

I noticed some powdery mildew on the squash plants and I thought I better go check the cannabis. Sure enough, one plant had a pretty significant infection. I was able to salvage most of it and start drying it out. The seeds will certainly still be good. I do wonder if the reason this plant had mold problems was genetic. Maybe the seeds will also grow plants susceptible to mold.

Katahdin hair sheep finishing 4th grazing of the pastures

The sheep have grazed the last of the yurt pasture, it lasted them 17 days instead of the expected 15. Good to see there is enough food for them to slow down the pace this late in the season.

This pasture has the most fruit trees and perennials planted on the swales and we are still excluding the sheep from them. On the next pass, which will be the last of the season, I am going to experiment with letting them graze amongst the trees.

This was the first full pasture they have been able to graze after culling the fence jumping ewe that was causing trouble. It's amazing the difference it made removing the problem sheep. The flock is grazing each paddock more evenly, not testing the fence, and moving through the pasture at the intended pace. They completed this 4th pass of the pastures in 37 days which is pretty much back on track for this time of the season. The two previous loops were way too fast due to the one ewe pushing out of the fence leading the flock into the next paddock early.
