can't be verified, trust.

Chiming in to say this reflects my long-term experience using Discord as well. It's a decently designed application as far as channel management is concerned, but otherwise it becomes a graveyard of mildly relevant interests and communities. Even after purging my server list, I keep all but one server permanently muted with all notifications disabled except for private DMs.

Gorgeous!! I just got a couple of Sempervivums that are similar! One is potentially crested or at least multi headed so I hope it grows up to be like this one!

The problem is you are putting trust in a box.

There's no equation for trust. Web of Trust models rely on a BINARY relationship with trust.

Trust is not binary.

What you said is important- there are layers/levels to trust! It's clearly more than a binary relationship.

If you list out every user you encounter on Nostr - could you sort them into meaningful "defined trust relationships?"

Sure.. but what's the goal? To what extent are you defining the context of trust?

All of the variables you define as "trusted" are subject to change.

What I see is encrypted npubs as an identity layer. These are free to generate and offer no verification to create. That is inherently an untrusted network. No amount of Webs of Trust will change the level of trust users have in the network itself.

Webs of Trust should be decentralized. They should be defining context. They should rely on endorsements.

But they shouldn't put trust in a box.

We need to organize information for ourselves before we can curate it via decentralized methods.

We need to cultivate trust before we determine what trust algorithms should look like.

nostr:npub12zqf55l7l9vsg5f6ssx5pq4f9dzu6hcmnepkm8ftj25fecy379jqkq99h8 we're creating 4chan on nostr over here.

The geolocation tag can contain any random geolocation, not necessarily the location of the poster.

There could be zaps if the profiles were setup with automatic pubkey@npub.cash in a profile or the client just assumed as such.

Nostr is recreating the whole internet when it should be innovating. Is there any benefit to a decentralized 4chan? Not really. It's simple code to begin with.

Nostr can improve 4chan. That's what it should aim to do. Thankfully you have inspired me with a new way it can do so.

I'll write an article about it I guess.

This is called "a Nostr problem."

The Nostr website advertises "a decentralized protocol that stands a chance."

It only stands a chance if it remains affordable for the average user.

If you force projects onto a pedestal with VC funding, that is called abusing your funding. You can polish a turd all you want, but unless that turd provides value, it's just a shiny turd.

When Google throws a billion down the drain, does it affect me? No. That's their choice and their money.

When Nostr devs throw their money down the drain, does it affect me? No. That's their choice and their money.

If you have funding at all, make it last.

If you want to know how much people are willing to pay, the answer is it depends on who they are and what they are paying for.

Paying for a relay at this point is a hypothetical option for most people.

The things you listed sound nice, but I think seeing is believing. You could charge $50/mo if the product is truly worth it. The question is how much value are users really deriving from the paid alternative?

Maybe I can't see the details end-to-end because they aren't built yet. That's fine, but it means you are responsible for marketing those ideas in a way that connects with future users/investors.

Don't place the responsibility of evidence on the hypothetically future users. Our evidence is using the protocol. A developer's evidence is zaps flowing through the network.

I would pay whatever I think a relay is worth, which is currently nothing.

There is more supply than ever of free content, paired with the notoriously fast leaking of new content, there isn't much incentive to go unless you enjoy the experience.

Personally it's a miss. I haven't been to a movie theatre in at least 4 years.

Might help if I had friends? Or lived in a populated city with multiple theatres? Who knows.

Don't fall for the illusion of convenience. You have hardwood floors. That's the definition of convenience.

Sweep but gently to avoid clouds of hair. Push the hair into a pile and then go back over it once the majority of the hair is gone. Vacuums are hazardous to mental health and dogs generally dislike them. But also why would you want to vacuum a bunch of hair and ruin your vacuum? Hell nah

Mindless approach to seeming charitable by partnering with corrupt charities who embezzle the money.

In America we often split the two. You're asked for a charity as you walk in and out of the store, and occasionally are asked if you want to round up your total to donate that way, or they have a small collections box near the register to guilt you into it.

And then at restaurants they pull the same shit to compensate employee wages.

Tbh idk why anyone goes outside anymore.
