Thanks! Thats what I was look into. I've seen that some are compatible with Gadgetbridge. Do you know if the Garmin Connect app is overly invasive for the newer watches? Or can any of them work relatively well with Gadgetbridge? I've looked online to see the permissions, etc, but I'm not sure which ones are absolutely needed for intended functionality. I appreciate the tips!

Just pulled the trigger on it today. Once you said Android Auto is coming, I knew it was time. Now I just need to figure out my watch situation.

I have been pretty agnostic to ordinals. But if they are in fact paying 1/4 of the price for the block space they take compared to other transactions, it seems like an issue.

It looks like one of my peers closed a channel on me with a 11.2 sat/vB fee rate for the closing transaction. Currently mempools are purging <12.9 sat/vB. I don't see a way to bump the fee. What comes next?

Awesome! Last time I tried that was a no-go if I recall correctly. Time to get sovereign while tx fees are less ridiculous.

I would love to use my zeuspay lnurl on my external node for zaps, but ran into routing issues that hung them up. I thought that strange since I have large channels open to well connected nodes with plenty of inbound liquidity. But that aside, I want to bypass that issue all together by having a channel open directly to Olympus. Is there any way to make that happen?

This is a great take. I've had fun learning and building my node(s), but there is definitely a level of crazy needed lol

Amidst what's going on lately, I thought it might be a good time to remind everyone that nostr:npub155m2k8ml8sqn8w4dhh689vdv0t2twa8dgvkpnzfggxf4wfughjsq2cdcvg supports both PayJoin and CoinJoin.

So if you're running a BTCPay instance, you can:

1. Withdraw Bitcoin from exchanges with PayJoin, obscuring the amount to outside observers.

2. Auto-initiate CoinJoin when certain conditions are met (desired Bitcoin amount and fee market).

Bonus: You can easily run your own coordinator, mixing your Bitcoin without using mainstream services and coordinators.

This could be a great asset for local communities with regular Bitcoin flows (e.g., DCA of members) to boost privacy collectively.

The best part? It takes about 20 minutes to set up. I'm considering creating a video guide - would you watch it if I did?

Would watch for sure. I've dabbled in mixers a small amount but haven't used them regularly because of the fees.

This shit hits hard. Too real.

It's unbelievable to me that people actually get behind that absolute joke of a shitcoin.

My favorite episode so far. I hadn't heard of Paul before but have since started listening to his content and have been moving toward an animal based diet. Plus started buying meat, organs, and dairy my from local farms.

The crazy thing is that most of my life I have avoided real dairy because I thought I was lactose intolerant. Those problems started when I was a young teenager and I'm 35 now. But I thought, "why not give the raw stuff a shot? Maybe I'll have a rough day, but at least I'll know I tried." Dude... Zero stomach issues.

Changed my life. Thank you.

Running away to Costa Rica forever sounds pretty nice right now.

I use Start9 for my Bitcoin needs and Umbrel for my other home server needs including the Nostr relay. I have them running on separate always on machines, though. I accidentally gained a collection of mini PCs because I like experimenting with stuff 😅 I'm also running a self-compiled node to compare reliability and ease of use.

GM! I am trying to open a 2.1m sat private channel to Olympus to make sure my zaps make it to my personal node. For some reason I have one sitting that can't find a route even though I'm connected to some solid nodes. But I'm getting a rejection. Is there a minimum channel size or some other restriction preventing it?

Financial Crimes Enforcement Network P.O. Box 39 Vienna, VA 22183

RE: Comment on Notice of Proposed Rulemaking - RIN: 1506-AB64

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed rule issued by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), as detailed in the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) published in the Federal Register on 10/23/2023 (88 FR 72701). The proposed rule pertains to recordkeeping and reporting requirements for transactions involving convertible virtual currency (CVC) mixing. While I recognize the importance of preventing illicit financial activities and ensuring national security, I believe that this rule raises significant concerns about the protection of individual privacy rights as guaranteed by the United States Constitution.

The proposed rulemaking is based on Section 311 of the USA PATRIOT Act, a piece of legislation enacted in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. While the USA PATRIOT Act was intended to address terrorism and money laundering, it is crucial that the government's actions in the name of national security do not infringe upon the civil liberties and privacy rights of its citizens. Regrettably, the current proposal does just that by imposing onerous recordkeeping and reporting requirements on domestic financial institutions and agencies in connection with CVC mixing.

My objections to this proposed rule are as follows:

Violation of Privacy: The Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures. The collection of data regarding CVC mixing transactions, even for the purpose of combating financial crimes and terrorism, may infringe upon the right to privacy. It is essential to strike a balance between national security concerns and the protection of individual privacy.

Blanket Assumption of Wrongdoing: The proposed rule implies that all CVC mixing transactions are inherently suspicious, effectively placing a presumption of guilt on individuals involved in such transactions. This blanket assumption goes against the principle of "innocent until proven guilty," which is a fundamental aspect of our legal system.

Chilling Effect on Innovation: Excessive regulations on cryptocurrency and CVC mixing may stifle innovation in the financial technology sector, hampering the growth of emerging technologies that have the potential to bring about positive economic changes.

Ineffectiveness: The proposed rule might not achieve its intended goals. Determined individuals involved in illicit activities will find alternative ways to conceal their transactions, rendering the rule largely ineffective while disproportionately impacting law-abiding citizens.

I urge FinCEN to reconsider this proposed rule and ensure that any regulatory actions taken respect the constitutional rights and privacy of the American people. It is essential to approach this matter with a balanced perspective, taking into account the potential for harm to individual privacy rights.

I kindly request that my comments be considered in the decision-making process, and I implore FinCEN to uphold the principles of liberty and justice that our great nation was founded upon. The protection of our civil liberties must remain paramount in any rulemaking efforts.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to a thoughtful and respectful consideration of my concerns.

Thank you for this! I used ChatGPT to paraphrase and submitted a comment as well.

100% down when I can take a fiat mining break. Still stuck in the hampster wheel for a while longer.

Yeah..so banks or MSBs will actually file what’s called SAR for transactions over the $2k threshold and if there are multiple transactions under $10k or repetitive cash withdrawals then it gets especially gets flagged. So there isn’t a way to move any significant amount of capital without getting tagged n bagged. I’ve worked in CC Acquiring and Treasury Mgt stuff for a decade. It’s super gross. I guess one could buy a pile of KYC gold and do a peer to peer transaction because I doubt they’d try to EO6102 again, as it wouldnt solve the monetary situation post petro dollar and civil war will break out in this climate. Still, that doesn’t solve the problem of how to use your non KYC BTC in a way that wont be easily hunted down n killed. It seems the only way is to have a side pot, align with a trusted custodian, keep earning fiat, and homestead.…while waiting out the bolshevik banking cartel’s demise and the BTC phoenix arises from the ashes. It will happen but could take a decade. It sure would be nice not to have to move to a friendly jurisdiction and invest in foreign assets in order repatriate earnings for operating dough back to the US. Most don’t have a fat enough stack to be able to execute on such a strategy so they’ll be neutralized and all that meme-ing will have been for nothing. So who is going to create the foreign asset instrument mechanism to save the masses and keep em in the game? Young nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle ? Uncle nostr:npub1nvxnc8egjlhpqtzrxmav3yk8frf3p7y9wujgwrcgwep2xr77xrvsa0paqn? Daddy nostr:npub18p63njhaxftx3m8luk2h0umj8p3cmfx09kv9hqhext7gr5ea585qsc0k8k ? Queen nostr:npub1uyz4w2w4rcphk0q5arzkutrecgscxwzajj4dkvh9mjyqjtxslm6qea8632?

I love everything you just said, lol. My wife and I have had serious conversations about taking the steps to get out from under it. I've traveled quite a bit and the mentality that "we have it better than anyone else" is utter nonsense.

Doesn’t matter if they don’t know why. The banks file a CTR for anything over $10k and now anything over $600 is reported and IRS requires form 8300. So the whole thing is a nice idea but your still full KYC…So you might as well just pay fees to support folks aligned in worldview like nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle, as well as prepare to shove a side pot in with a trusted custodian because I suspect that’s soon going to be the gubment’s ultimatum. The more I try to discuss these things with folks here…the more I’m finding they don’t actually know how the banking system works or maybe don’t want to talk about solutions publicly because they’re too high profile. nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx plugged nokyconly.com at a conference and even that resource doesn’t provide any real solutions for converting any significant amount of fiat, but I would love to be corrected or at minimum game this out with folks who don’t want to just regurgitate meme headlines. It’s not practical to smurf any significant amount cash outta the system without getting flagged. Show me a way apart from taking a private flight.

I'll dig into the IRC Section to be sure, but my understanding is that the $600 rule targets businesses. Not the general public sending money to each other. As for the $10k with banks, its pretty easy to stay below that number. I'm not talking about tax evasion, so if I convert $10k+ to fiat for some reason, I'm not concerned with reporting the income. But my holdings until that point are my business.

I send cash from strike and get KYC free bitcoin. Unless, of course, someone cared enough and had the authority to get my transaction details from Strike and match it to the transaction.

I'm listening to The New Confessions of an Economic Hitman right now (seemingly similar topic) and it is amazing. I'll have to add this one to my list.

I'm running out of banking options 😅

I've been going through this list for alternatives to common, privacy invasive programs. Including keyboard. Someone here posted it a while back, but I don't remember who to give the credit to.

As I sit here reading a textbook for my tax accounting class at 11pm on a Saturday, I am questioning the choices that got me here. I was an aircraft mechanic for over a decade in the military. Why didn't I just use that experience and get into HVAC or something if I wanted to stop with the airplane stuff? But here I am, 35 years old with a wife and kid and 2 semesters away from graduating with a degree in accounting.

I recently started using Robosats and Bisq. Both are very cool. Wish I had started sooner!
