If you don't want to do a web server thing like https://orange.surf/public-btcpay-umbrel-tailscale/, then you can use a semi trusted solution that resolves to your own node like https://stacking.tips
Another option is just to minimize the non-custodial apps. I zap from Phoenix, but when I receive zaps it goes to a custodial wallet and I pull the funds off it every once in awhile.

Sorry of I seem triggered. I do genuinely believe this type of thing makes people feel stupid and inadequate. For most people, non-custodial lightning is not just inconvenient but not achievable at all.
I look forward to the day that changes. Lots of great stuff is under construction in the lightning world. Bolt 12, privacy features, mobile node improvements, etc. Then I will be telling people to use that stuff. Until then, custodial is best for a lot of people.
Want to learn more about lightning? Check out Bitcoin QnA's lightning guide:
First time I've seen this or anything like it attached to one of these custodial bitching posts. How deep will people have to dig in the replies to see this?
Pushing people to look for more soverign alternatives is not helpful without guidance. You really do make less technical users feel stupid and inadequate. It's doing more harm than good.
None of these negative comments and posts about custodial lightning include anything about what new less-technical users should actually do.
If you put together a guide on how newbs should onboard to lightning and include it in all these comments you make, I would shout that guide from the rooftops.
Or you guys can keep bitching and making users feel stupid.
There are tons of average people on nostr. All kinds of non technical and lightly technical are using it every day.
Also AFAIK I can't receive zaps on Phoenix, as it doesn't provide an LN address.
Can you give an argument against the small amounts apologists? Maybe provide an alternative vision for what the average person should do? (Spin up a home server and open lightning channels? Really?)
Why is this a problem?
There are so many great shaka gifs. If you've never done a gif search for "shaka," I highly recommend it.
I definitely agree with you about the onboarding and flows being well-designed so support isn't even needed. I'm just also seeing that you seem to have a heavy support burden right now and it's probably not the best use of your time vs mine.
Maybe there's another way to approach this: I and other Nostr Sherpas could pitch in on the actual Nostrplebs support channels. I don't know where you handle support but if you directed people to an open chat room, Sherpas could hang out there and help take the support burden off you guys.
Hearing your talk, I think we need to sort out "nostr support" and not have it all just fall on Nostrplebs.
The type of thing I have in mind is like this: we could call it Nostr Sherpas, and we would have a presence on Reddit, Twitter, Telegram and Nostr, as well as a wiki with an FAQ. Volunteer Sherpas could hang out in those spaces and help people.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with an idea like this. I'm willing to pitch in if this is already being built, and others willing to pitch in should connect with me. #[2] #[3]
"Bitcoin skyrockets above 28,000"
If you think that's skyrocketing, you aren't ready for the 10k/day moves in our future.
That's what I originally heard. π I was like "what"?
