Building StartOS, a graphical operating system optimized for self-hosting.

The old man was right about this one

Hey there, your relay is designed to work over Tor for now. You need to go into your Properties page and copy/past the `ws://

.onion` URL and use that instead of the .local URL you are trying to use now. What device are you using? You will need to ensure you are properly running Tor on that device for this to work. Instructions below:

https://docs.start9.com/latest/user-manual/connecting/connecting-tor/index

If this is on Android, I'm not sure we have found a client yet that actually succeeds in adding your own relay. Works great on iris.to for web as well as Damus for iOS, not sure about Amathyst.

Not dumb at all, glad it's working now, enjoy!

Public is fine if you know what you're doing and understand the risks. We have granular config options for public relays

Oh I see, you mean a user interface for the Nostr service. Yeah that's cool, we could definitely slap something together for that if none of the relays build one in by default. Maybe even a little widget or something.

You want command line? If so, we definitely have that as a feature, it's just not the recommended way. What other features would you like to see? We weren't aware that "umbrella" (haha) had any features that we lack. In fact, Start9 has many more

No, more details soon

Hey there, great questions. We do not currently expose the seed for LND, but are planning to in an upcoming release because people are wanting it.

The reason we made this decision originally is because exposing the seed is unnecessary and misleading. It leads people people to believe that writing down the seed is enough. It is not. To properly back up a lightning node, you need to back the seed AND the static channel backup. These are both included when you create a backup on your Start9 device.

There is currently no reason to register a product key with Start9. But in the future, when we embue these unique keys with value in the form of white glove support, discounted pricing, etc, then yes, we will offer a way for DIY people to pay a small fee to sign up if they want. Totally optional of course

New version of NextCloud with major improvements!

- Access over Secure LAN and Tor simultaneously

- Change default background jobs to cron (enables use of the RSS feed app "News")

- Update to latest upstream version 25.0.3

Much better lol. Tailscale is a central service provider, not recommended.

For a private relay, very little, just your own posts/follows/etc.

Public relays are not recommended for most people, as it could use tons of disk.

Iris works great on a Tor-enabled browser. We recommend Firefox or Brave. Damus for iOS, just need to have Orbot running.

📢 Nostr RS Relay is out of beta and available on the Start9 production registry.

Choose whether your relay is private or public and fine tune however you like using a simple, validated form.

Connect from anywhere.
