Building StartOS, a graphical operating system optimized for self-hosting.

Careful, we highly recommend against using a Raspberry Pi for anything Bitcoin related. You're going to have a bad time, sooner or later.

Happy to see nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll selling out of all their nodes this weekend. Self sovereignty is key. Kudos to all the hardworking members at Start9, y'all are doing incredible work! 🫔

"Happy". Yeah it's bitter sweet. Love the sales, but sucks to have nopthing top sell when lots of people still want to buy.

The server being unreachable in no way suggests there is a serious problem or anything has happened to your data.

During the update, the server makes a "bep-bep" noise every 30-60 seconds. This process can take up to 45 minutes in some cases. Most DIY devices do not have speakers, and people are impatient, and so they start clicking things and pulling power, which can result in a corrupted state.

At this point, the server will make a Beethoven chime, which means it is in diagnostic mode and therefor available by visiting start.local or by visiting the IP directly. Performing a "System Rebuild" from he diagnostic page will usually resolve the issue. In very rare cases, a single command may need to be run via SSH.

We have an unbelievably helpful support team available pretty much around the clock on our Telegram channel: https://t.me/start9_labs. Please drop in for assistance getting your devices running again, shouldn't take too long.

In the future, updates will serve their own user interface in order to provide visual, as well as audio, feedback for people without speakers.

Does nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll support automatic channel backups to a server or usb stick?

Could only find docs for manual backup.

Currently, you click "create backup" whenever you want to create a backup. Can be done to a USB stick or over-the-air to another device on the same LAN.

šŸš€ Announcing StartOS v0.3.5!

This is our most stable release ever with massive improvements to performance and reliability.

A big step towards v0.4.0.

You won't see the difference; you will feel it!

https://github.com/Start9Labs/start-os/releases/tag/v0.3.5

In the System Tab, you should see a button called "Software Update". If there is an update available, it should have a rocket ship next to it. Maybe you are on a VERY old version. What version are you on?

Y'all think nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll will sponsor me to wear their shirt at a BitDevs presentation?

Our goal is to be so awesome that you feel proud to wear our shirt for your presentation. That said, I'm happy to send you a shirt and a few more to hand out.

It can take up to 24h but should be faster.

You will only see the updates if you are on the latest version of StartOS

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to connect my node to nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5. I’ve connected once in the past but I can’t remember how I did it. I’m using nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll and scanning the qr code but i get the same error message ā€œerror fetching lightning address dataā€

Anybody have recommendations as what I should be doing? Should I look into tailscale? I will zap for technical support

We recommend using Lightning Node Connect through Lightning Terminal app. You can also enter the credentials manually instead of scanning the QR code. IN the next release of LND (0.17) on StartOS, scanning the QR should work just fine

I missed this šŸ‘€ nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll has added the Primal tech stack into the StartOS marketplace, joining other existing Nostr clients. You can now run your very own self sovereign Primal client on your own hardware with just the click of a few buttons.

We're working together, but it's not ready yet

Will be available very soon

8GB devices with slow disk I/O such as the Raspberry Pi aren't going to work for much longer.
