Bitcoin failure from today 😒

I stopped in Ojochal and it was cool to see that multiple spots accept bitcoin, but I couldn't pay, because there was no cell reception (not even on local Liberty simcard). These merchants/stores should really have some easy way to connect to their wifi next to the area where you pay - they could have the wifi QR code printed (see example below).

When both merchant and buyer have connection: all good.

When seller is offline: we can use their Static QR and it's ok.

When buyer is offline: is there any solution?

I've worried about this, but there aren't easy solutions

Bitcoin is a solution to a problem that most people don't recognize, and those that do don't fully appreciate.

Anyone with an Apple Developer account can check this branch out and run it on their own device. Shortcuts are a little weirder, but there's an exported plaintext file in the repo, and an iCloud link in the PR comments.

What? All of those very specific details are probably true! A good propagandist uses the truth as often as possible.

Got receipts?

Wow... the Fed had been sending earnings of ~$6B a month to the US Treasury, until August 2022. In August they were worried about inflation, and raised interest rates, meaning they started paying more interested on deposited money, eating into their earnings.

But inflation! It had to be done!

So now they write off ~$10B in losses per month, and won't be paying Treasury anything until that loss is recovered. That's right: because of their own decisions, they're effectively never going to pay the US government anything, ever again. Current losses are ~ $216.6B and growing.
